HealthyIM KK has launched HealthyTokyo.com, the first and only membership site dedicated to ensuring the health and wellness of Japan’s English-speaking community. The new service is in line with recent Japanese government policies and initiatives designed to make it easier for foreign residents and travelers to obtain healthcare here.
This unique service provides members with a network of top English-speaking doctors, dentists, wellness coaches and healthy-lifestyle partners easily accessible through a dedicated live concierge. HealthyTokyo members also receive free introductory sessions with wellness coaches as well as special discounts and unique offerings for everything from health screenings to spas and organic food.
The Japanese government has clearly expressed the need to supply foreign residents and visitors with easier access to quality healthcare. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, for example, is promoting inbound medical travel. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is focused on helping Japan’s foreign residents, while the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is looking to assist travelers who require medical assistance. Language and cultural barriers are common obstacles that HealthyIM has overcome with its English-speaking healthcare network and concierge services, including those that HealthyTokyo.com provides.
“We spent the last two years listening to Japan’s expat community, and they’ve consistently identified a huge need for easily accessible quality healthcare from doctors and dentists fluent in English,” says HealthyIM CEO Michael Bobrove. “Foreign residents, bilingual Japanese and visitors are also looking for a one-stop shop for fitness and wellness options such as personal trainers, yoga studios, gyms, organic, vegetarian and health food outlets.”
An experienced team of Wellness Coaches — including personal trainers, nutritionists and other specialists — handle the healthy lifestyle needs of members and offer free introductory consultations and deals on their services. HealthyTokyo members also receive special offers from many Healthy Partners, which include restaurants, gyms, health food stores, massage and spa facilities and other wellness product and service providers. The site’s Healthy Concierge sets up appointments with healthcare providers and answers questions related to the service.
“Japan has great health services, but they’re sometimes a bit hidden away,” says Dr Gautam A Deshpande, a U.S. board-certified physician affiliated with several high profile institutions in Tokyo. “HealthyTokyo gives patients the power to choose the right healthcare provider for the right problem at the right time.”
Leading Japan fitness expert Charles “Chuck” Wilson echoed Deshpande’s sentiments, as did Danny Risberg, CEO of Philips Electronics Japan. “After over two decades of living in Japan—and spending a large portion of that time focused on the healthcare industry—I’m happy to see that we finally have a system with information of value that the English-speaking community can access,” says Risberg.

This is a critical problem of Japanese health care system. It is not transparent at all. All hospitals are not willing to share resources to better serve for the patients. If this problem is fixed, Japan will be a medical hub center in Asia.
