This is a pretty controversial topic but most of this appears to driven by immigration rather than metropolitan living. You only need to look at a global map showing the prevalence of schizophrenia or any other psychological disorder to notice the marked differences between the west and many other parts of the world.

Utter tripe.

It's well-established that psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia, are highly heritable, but genetics don't tell the whole story

But it still plays the biggest role, unfortunately.

Population density was not a factor in the psychotic rate, nor could differences be explained by age, sex or ethnic composition.

Rather, researchers found higher rates in younger men, among racial and ethnic minorities

Cultures where women do not enjoy the freedom of choosing or rejecting their own reproductive partners have not been able to stop these disorders from being bred out of the population. In the west, the end of arranged marriages and the freedom of women to choose their sexual partners has meant that men with these undesirable disorders are more often than not left childless and do not pass them on.

I think that a big part of the increase in the incidence of mental illness depends on the social environment. Especially in the modern society, people live under great pressure, work pressure, social wealth gap between the rich and poor, and the lack of emotional life, etc., which causes people's mental problems. Therefore, it is necessary to create a good working environment, comfortable living environment and good family environment.

"the strongest area-level predictor of high rates of psychotic disorders was a low rate of owner-occupied housing," said the report.

You put people in places like Grenfell Tower and badly maintained estates. Not surprising people have a crisis in mental well-being.

There's no baseline because cultural differences and access to mental healthcare differ. It's hard to make international comparisons of something so subjective.

As a South East Londoner born and bred, I and my multiple personalities say this is nonsense...
