Hmmm. Want to know what works better -- much better?

Abstinence till marriage, followed by fidelity within marriage.

If you do that, and marry someone who does the same, there is no chance you'll get an STD. None at all.

This isn't unrealistic, either. Zillions of people throughout human history have understood this and exercised it.

Just because we're unwilling to do something doesn't make it unrealistic.

This is the best -- in fact, the only foolproof -- way of avoiding this particular undesired outcome.

If you're not willing to advocate and support the best & only foolproof way of avoiding a problem, then you don't really care about avoiding the problem. Whatever it is.

“I thought it was probably in my best interest to protect myself, and my partners as well,” he said. He said it’s been a positive experience and that he hasn’t tested positive for chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis while using it.

Wouldn't it be best to have just one partner? Wouldn't it? I mean, really. Why do I have to bow down to your promiscuousness and accept your hedonism as if that is in the best interest of society? I am just saying this as the majority of society would say. There is no Pride in Hedonism.

Articles like this promote promiscuity because if there is a drug that can save you, IT's ALL GOOD! What happened to a society that has degraded itself to promoting promiscuity.

OK, back to the article.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is drafting recommendations for using it as a kind of morning-after pill for preventing STDs, said Dr. Leandro Mena, director of the agency's STD prevention division.

Wouldn't it be nice if people focused on a very single person that you could love so that your aim was to get married and procreate? The mantra is that we are over populated is not really true, and Japan is a case in point. A society cannot survive without out procreation. Why is the younger generation so brainwashed in the hijacked LGBTQ cult, which this article is alluding to, and I am not even coming at this with a religious conviction of any kind whatsoever. Young people are truly in a cult, and it is articles like this that perpetuate the lie of anything goes sexually as long as I don't get a disease through my promiscuity. How did such a thinking come into existence.

Fidelity or saving yourself until marriage is great in theory. Only problem is it’s not realistic for a lot of people and a lot of religious people think that oral or the other orifice doesn’t count. When I was younger condoms seemed to work pretty well. I can’t imagine a Japanese doctor prescribing meds for STDs before you actually are infected anyway. But even in my younger days before marriage I never had “multiple partners”. Had a lot of opportunities and I have absolutely zero religious attitudes towards sex but it just seemed morally wrong. Also multiple partners just seems time consuming and expensive and I’m a naturally lazy person or maybe just bad with multitasking!

Twenty years living here and multiple partners, I can count on one hand the number of Japanese girls who brought up wearing protection before I did. Many were even like "Oh, don't worry about it". The level of sex education here is truly shocking.

Interesting article, but what is the relevance to Japan? The STD strains in the US are different, while tetracycline and minocycline are more prevalent in Japan than doxycycline.

Another slide into the gutter for society. We don’t encourage people to become more moral or lose weight anymore. Instead here’s a pill or an injection, carry on with your dangerous and obscene behaviour that costs society plenty on all the sickness you will have

Spot on.

More of our tax money going to more pills.

Now they need the morning after pregnancy prevention, and the morning after std prevention doses.

Drug-resistant Gonorrhea has become a problem.

Unprotected sex with many partners is unwise.

But sex is a natural activity to be enjoyed.

A 2 at 10(pm) becomes a 10 by 2(am). It’s a crap shoot by then what YOLO people end up doing and catching.

Many years ago a doctor friend who worked for a pharmaceutical company would take antibiotics for a day or two following unsafe sex encounters. Recommended I do the same. Seems he was right.

People don't always make the best decisions, especially when alcohol is involved, so it makes sense to have a backstop. Not condoning indiscriminate sex, but what's done is done.

We don’t encourage people to become more moral or lose weight anymore.

In the U.K., yes, maybe. But in Japan obesity is not a major problem. Also, morals is taught in schools here.

More of our tax money going to more pills.

Indeed. But they aren't just spending it on developing a new painkiller, this is cutting edge science that was spawned from the corona vaccines.

How about Hepatitis B which is highly transmitted or HIV which requires a month long course of oral medication after risky sex?

Still lots of diseases out there…

Neither the after morning pill to prevent pregnancy nor drugs that fight STDs were spawned from the corona vaccines.

Really?
