So they're making Androids now.

These creatures, whatever they are, will be born without loving parents.

Kinda seems wrong to me.

No, what is wrong is your understanding of the article, almost as if you wrote your comment without reading anything.

Every once in a while, scientists push the line a little further. This is one of those times. The line of what is ethically permissible keeps getting pushed back. But since it is just one small step at a time, no one gets upset or concerned. But the problem is the that the pushing of the line will never stop. What at one time was thought to be unthinkable will become permissible as little by little the line is pushed back so that it never seems like a big deal. Anyone showing concern is ridiculed and criticized and accused of hindering science. And they always have good motivations for why they push the line back again. https://crev.info/2020/06/research-on-embryonic-stem-cells-takes-dangerous-turns/

Just to be clear, no humans at all were harmed in the making of this model and no creatures gestated. The ‘embryo like models’ were not capable of developing into a human baby.

Great rhetoric, poor science.

Speaking of birth defects, I saw a pregnant woman smoking the other day. Is that common in Japan?

No, the reasons for the lack of concern is a valid reasoning and justification. Opponents will always cry "dangerous" for fuzzy concerns but always unable to pinpoint what is exactly what is supposed to be unethical. On the other hand proper, justified concerns are always raised from inside the scientific community and this ends up in stronger regulation and even stopping some kind of lines of research (at least until all the ethical concerns are properly addressed.

But the problem is the that the pushing of the line will never stop. What at one time was thought to be unthinkable will become permissible as little by little the line is pushed back so that it never seems like a big deal.

That is not a problem as long as everything is done ethically. There is nothing wrong with doing things that were thought to be unthinkable when it was just prejudice and ignorance what stopped people from advancing, that is perfectly fine and desirable. Else we would still have no transfusions, transplant from deceased donors or cheap insulin from GMO bacteria.

Anyone showing concern is ridiculed and criticized and accused of hindering science. And they always have good motivations for why they push the line back again.

False, plenty of people raise perfectly valid reasons for concern all the time, the people that get ridiculed are those that try to push their completely personal opinions as if they were some dogmatic truths that should apply to everybody without questioning. It is a completely different thing to re-think something based on ethical concerns about organisms able to develop into humans or human experimentation on vulnerable groups, another completely different to try to stop something because your chosen deity supposedly said it was wrong in something written hundreds or thousands of years ago.
