Apart from Phillips Respironic's historical level bad response to the recall and earlier safety notices, sufficient to cause serious financial damage to the firm, many users of the product in question have given up waiting and taken action on their own. Removing the "sound abatement" foam on their own, or purchasing a replacement part that contains no foam at all are very popular solutions.

Taking into account the benefits of the device and the relatively small risks that caused the recall even refusing to do anything and keep using it would be justified, but if a relatively simple measure let the users solve the problem on their own who is to blame them? after all most feel abandoned by Philips.

My father uses such a device. It has likely saved his life.

I have sleep apnea and insomnia. Honestly, sleep disorders should be treated as serious diseases and sleep clinics should be covered by public health care.

How many car accidents and deaths can be avoided if these disorders are treated? How many tired and sleepy workers can improve their work performance? The list goes on.

After a cancer op, I had low blood oxygen for a while. The hospital suggest I wear the sleep-apnea device but once I saw it there was no way I was going to sleep with that on me. My blood oxygen is back up to 94, previously 87.

I have an oxygen canister next to my bed and take one or two shots before sleeping.

The cost of hiring or buying is expensive.

But the article is about one failed machine that needs an instant recall and refund.
