I said this 2 years ago.

The only way to fight this pandemic is to vaccinate the children. In the beginning of vaccines, priority was to those 65, but the virus was mainly spread by those in their 20s.

Though, now we need a more effective vaccine.

What's the point of all our efforts when children are spreading the virus to each other, their parents, and then parents to coworkers, etc?

Nothing dubious or unsafe about the vaccines,

This study (and many others) says otherwise: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4125239

"The excess risk of serious adverse events of special interest surpassed the risk reduction for COVID-19 hospitalization relative to the placebo group in both Pfizer and Moderna trials (2.3 and 6.4 per 10,000 participants, respectively)."

And that was preOmicron, the difference is certainly much greater now, since the vaccine is the same but the virus is much milder.

Nothing dubious or unsafe about the vaccines, and every nurse in the hospitals I work with have already vaccinated their children. The real risk comes from COVID, not from the vaccines.

If you work in the health care industry, you must be aware of all the doctors and nurses around the world who were not allowed to work due to their refusal to take the original shots and/or boosters once they saw the damage they were causing through adverse effects. This is one key reason why there have been so many staff shortages since the vaccines were mandated in that sector.

Anybody that rejects the advice of their doctor with the phrase "my child, my choice" is in company of parents that reject life saving blood transfusions, antibiotics, nutrition or surgeries for them using exactly the same phrase.

This is pure fallacy. People are allowed to make up their own minds on what individual treatments to accept or reject based on accurate and truthful data about that particular treatment. In the context of this article, many parents are skeptical about the COVID vaccines without being worried about other vaccines such as MMR, pertussis, Hep B etc., or antibiotics or blood transfusions for that matter. Ultimately, parents are responsible for their own children, for better or worse, and have have to bear the consequences of their their decisions. Granted, not everyone is going to make the right one every time because we are all human. In the case of COVID vaccines, though, neither governments nor many of the makers of the COVID vaccines have been honest about their safety and/or effectiveness, so why should parents just shut up and inject their kids with these products without question?

It's clear that public distrust of the authorities is rising - for good reason - and fewer parents are prepared to expose their children to these dubious vaccines as they understand the risks outweigh the benefits in almost all cases. I sure won't be giving it to my child when he's eligible.

The pharma companies are going to milk this cow until it is nothing but skin and bones! Game over! No caring parent wants to put a trial vaccine into their child's arm who isn't going to get severely ill from covid anyway!

No longer a trial vaccine, already proved to have much less important negative reactions than what comes with the infection, and much less profit for companies from a vaccine than what they lose from selling drugs even to treat a mild symptomatic covid.

What arguments do you have to contradict the experts, including pediatricians that say vaccinating children have value?

Readers, please stop your daily bickering on these vaccine threads. If you have already posted here today, then please do not post any more comments.

Officials also note there is some hesitance about the need for shots for kids who are far less likely than older age groups to develop serious illness or die from the coronavirus.

My child my choice--that is obvious.

Some are confused by the mass advertising by the WHO pushing the vaccines especially in poorly developed countries,

Kind of like an insurance agent pushing different insurance programs:

Founded in 1948, WHO is the United Nations agency

Are you still confused what a scientific authority means?

The confusion is yours; read their homepage.

Also, those vaccines in the States are authorized under Emergency Use Authority, where the FDA has the authority (note, not the WHO, a UN agency) authorizes unapproved medical products or unapproved uses of approved medical products.

Are you still confused what a scientific authority means? why would a global scientific authority make local approvals? that is not their role. What scientific authorities is to decide what is correct according to the scientific information available which the local agencies will take into account to take their own decisions, countries with systems that want to be considered scientific will follow this advice.

Considering the above, no surprise.

Considering what? that the FDA authorized the vaccines? that the experts recommend them? That the vaccines for adults have gained full approval?

Nearly 300,000 children under 5 have received COVID-19 shots in the two weeks since they became available, a slower pace than for older groups.

The vaccine is not authorized for children under 6 months old. Not surprisingly.

nearly 4 in 10 said they wouldn't get their children vaccinated at all or only if required.

Considering the above, no surprise.

Seems people still don't understand what the word "experimental" means.

Yes, mostly people that incorrectly try to misrepresent the vaccines as experimental when they are obviously not.

First of all, not all experts.

The scientific consensus is clear, you have presented no evidence to prove it is wrong, even when asked specifically for it. But you choose to keep repeating a claim you have recognized not being able to prove. That would mean the consensus is still correct when it completely contradicts what you personally believe.

Second, how do you know whether they are getting their own kids vaxxed?

So the conspiracy now consist on hiding the fact that pediatricians are not vaccinating their kids? it is quite easy to blame a conspiracy for anything that clearly disproves your point, any time you are asked for evidence that support an accusation (such as pediatricians not vaccinating their kids) the excuse is always the same, not having evidence is precisely the evidence of hiding that evidence.. not a valid argument at all, but unfortunately very commonly used for people that simply have no evidence to support their claims.

Thinking the experts are all wrong (or worse, in a huge conspiracy to sacrifice their own children for money)

First of all, not all experts.

Monty -- Thanks God there are still parents around who are using their brains.

So about 40% of parents can be classified as so-called "anti-vaxxers" and another 40% as "vaccine hesitant"

No, that is all your strawman, people do not automatically become antivaxxers by not vaccinating, disinformation can sway people and so they become victims of the antivaxxers that are the ones promoting disinformation with that end.

The article makes it very clear a lot of people are just not worried enough to make an appointment just to vaccinate and instead will wait until the programmed visits, it also makes the point that parents should talk with their pediatricians to solve any doubts which can help some of the parents to decide after all to vaccinate.

Thanks God there are still parents around who are using their brains.

Thinking the experts are all wrong (or worse, in a huge conspiracy to sacrifice their own children for money) is not a sign of properly considering things. It just means they agree with your personal biass so you consider them correct, even without any evidence to support it.

Here in Japan, I do not know even a single person who will give this vaccine to their kids.

How about you ask around the pediatricians in Japan? They seem overwhelmingly in favor of the vaccines, and obviously they should know better than your friends, coworkers and parents at your son's school

38% said they would wait and see, and nearly 4 in 10 said they wouldn't get their children vaccinated at all

Thanks God there are still parents around who are using their brains.
