RU 486 has been used in Europe for maybe.... 20 years and more. I was a little discouraged to see it called "abortion pill" over and over again without any mention of what it actually does.

I think people might not only get the wrong image. People will also have no way of figuring out what it does, so here goes, from a very benign source:

"RU486 is a synthetic steroid which works by blocking the effects of progesterone, the natural hormone which is required to maintain the lining of the uterus during pregnancy. RU486 starves the womb of progesterone, the lining of the womb breaks down, and it is lost along with the developing embryo or foetus."

If used very very early in a pregnancy, I can't see how this is controversial. If used late in a pregnancy, one could understand that it would be controversial for all kinds of reasons. Your controversy may vary.

The pill's trade name implies exactly what it's for "Are (R), You (U), For (4), Ending It (86)". Not sure how you could pretend not to know what that is if you named it that by chance and to say it's just a coincidence would be unbelievable.

An even better alternative to ru-486 is 'the morning after pill' which can actually be taken up to 4-5 days after unprotected sex.

Imo, young women (and men) should be informed about all birth-control options which are available to them before it's too late. Unwanted pregnancies should not necessarily lead to unwanted babies.

I'm sorry I'm ending your life before it had a chance to begin, but you are just too much of an inconvenience

It's a medical procedure. Your comment is, at best, emotive.

It's a medical procedure.

That it is, one which ends a life.

Your comment is, at best, emotive

So the intentional ending of a life should be done without emotion?

Abortion is the willful ending of a life. I can't and won't see it as anything other than murder. It is disappointing that some people feel that it is okay to end an unwanted pregnancy by killing the foetus.

It's the removal of a clump of non sentient cells. Why use trigger words like "murder" in order to dictate what women can or cannot do with their own bodies?
