The social aspects of drinking coffee (with friends or even alone but surrounded by people), the act of preparation (taking a time-out), the aromatic benefits, the lack of fear of ill-effects on the body (as opposed to neurotic health freaks)... these many also play a role in longevity. How does tea compare, I wonder?

Keeps everyone else away too - coffee breath is revolting.

A silly study, it deliberatly excluded those with health issues. I bet you'd get the same results with tea or water.

Well whatever the ultimate association there is no doubt the coffee bean itself is loaded with many different nutrients. And those with health issues were not deliberately excluded. The study did actually compare coffee drinkers that were smokers or former smokers and found that when you combine cigarette smoking and coffee together the coffee doesn't compensate for heart damage due to smoking. I would even guess there is a negative synergistic effect on blood pressure, especially given that smokers tend to drink more coffee.
