If the British cut out toast and chips they will starve. Still beans on fish might be a healthier option.

I like my toast slightly cremated and my chips nice and crispy.

The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, classifies acrylamide as a “probable human carcinogen”, putting it in the same risk category as ....... working as a hairdresser.

How did that come about ?

What do hairdressers do that puts them in the same risk category ?

This is interesting because people in Japan have long maintained that burnt toast was carcinogenic. I never believed it on the grounds that I had never heard of it in the UK and people certainly eat a lot more toast, burnt and otherwise, in Britain than in Japan. So how is it that this has been a common belief or even knowledge in Japan for 30+ years, and it is only now coming to people's attention in Britain?

I can't speak for Britain, but I remember hearing as a much younger man, at least 20 years ago, that burnt things like toast were potentially carcinogenic.
