Remdesivir and the steroid dexamethasone are the only drugs authorised in Europe to treat COVID-19.

Shortages are likely to stir debate about the availability and pricing of COVID-19 drugs. While dexamethasone, a generic medicine, is widely available and cheap, remdesivir is protected by Gilead's patent

No doubt people that do not understand scientific papers will come to complain that it is all a world wide conspiracy to hide their favorite drug, only to push for profit from expensive drugs like Remdesivir... and Dexamethasone?

Somehow some people are so focused on money themselves that it is easy to believe that every doctor and scientist in the world is willing to hide good drugs from their own family just for money (oh yes, I forgot, except for a supposedly huge number of people that don't, but that don't have names either.)

This article demonstrate that even if it was not such an illogical proposition it is also not necessary either, even Remdesivir, that shows a modest benefit, is selling to the full capacity, and that is even with the "competition" of a dirt cheap drug like dexamethasone, that is much more effective. At this point if there were 10 drugs that were effective all of them would sell without problems.

$2,340 per patient is more than a bit steep.
