Or you could eat as many plants as you want. As both a vegan and the almost-vegan diet of the traditional Okinawans and others around the planet have already proven over and over. https://www.nutritionfacts.org

Veganism is rising in the UK so its obesity issues will go down over time and predicted to be a quarter of the population in the next five years.

This drug is just a way to keep eating badly and maintain the reliance on companies. Kinda reminds me of the humans in Wall-E

Except for those medicaly challenged, self control would be a game changer .

Or they could just stop filling their faces with cake?

This is promising news. Have a couple of friends and family who have struggled with weight issues for many years, despite trying all sorts of things (diets/excercise/medicines etc) to lose the pounds.

Or they could just stop filling their faces with cake?

Exceedingly bad taste.

Okinawans are vegan???? Wow, big news to me as I have Japanese in laws who live there and have lived there for generations and are hardly vegan. Also, vegan food is healthy???? Really??? King's college london recently published a paper on why vegan food may actually be worse than typical meat and fish based diets. Do a simple google search and you'll find a lot of evidence that suggests vegan food is no healthier than any other kind of food regime. More vegetables, fruits, less junk food ...yes...but vegan food as the magical cure for obesity? Dream on. Responsible calorific intake and appropriate calorific expenditure is what will get rid of diabetes. I am from England, disgusting levels of fatness everywhere.

I'm should patent my game-changing method of losing weight. It's a two step plan - eat less and exercise more.

See the Game Changer documentary about veganism and sports.

Just cut carbs. Carbs are not needed, all they do is make you store fat.

Intermittent fasting is also good.

I have a lot of never ending time after my death to think about such things. In the probably rather short time left until that death I just prefer to eat or drink what I like, think is delicious and that is not totally healthy but only sufficiently healthy. That’s surely not much of what you want to promote for what reason or ideology ever. Leave me alone with that bs. Thnx

Carbs are also very tasty and satisfying. I would not last long on a no-carb or even lo-carb diet.

The diet you can stick at is the diet you will succeed with.

Intermittent fasting is also good.

Some people cannot even contemplate the idea of going even half a day without food, but I find it works for me.

Raw Beer nailed it. Anyone who wants to understand why, I recommend you read The Obesity Code by Jason Fung.

Thats because most people eat too many carbs which makes them hungry. Cutting back on carbs makes fasting quite easy.

What are the side effects?

Read the article, the drug effect is in reducing appetite, this would make any dietary control much easier to make, becoming satiated with a well balanced diet would be the main objective, and obviously this could include a vegan one.

Except for those medicaly challenged, self control would be a game changer .

You have a problem with alcoholism? just drink things without alcohol!

Addicted to gambling? play without betting any money!

Suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder? Just stop doing things repeatedly!

People can have huge problems with something that for you is very easy to do, if a drug can make this easier also for them (and it controlled by a physician to avoid misuse) what is exactly the problem?

But I'm the lo-carb dietitian's nightmare; I love carbs. That doesn't stop me sticking to an intermittent fasting regime.

I was very much into carbs and felt exactly as you describe; I needed my 3 meals (and snacks) per day and I would get very irritable if any meal was delayed.

I now usually eat within an 8 to 10 hour window, and I often do 1 to 3 day fasts (water only) with ease.

I don't do this for weight loss; I've always been thin. I do it for other health benefits (e.g. autophagy).

Fats also make foods very tasty and satisfying. Once you quite carbs, you no longer miss them.

All carbs are not created equal. I eat large amounts of fruit and vegetables that contain a lot of carbs. They're ok, because they come with fiber.

It's refined carbs that you want to avoid.

Fiber does help reduce the insulin spike, but some fruits should be avoided (or limited) as they are too sweet.

If consumed, fruits should be eaten, not drank. Fruit juices are almost as bad as sodas.

Yes, refined carbs are poison.

Yes, it’s the fiber that fills and satisfies, and keeps you feeling full longer. The refined carbs are what cause the sugar spike followed by the dip that makes you want more.

Always whole meal bread and pasta in preference to white (tastes better, too), brown rice in preference to polished, and eat fruit and veggies unpeeled.

It’s OK to peel bananas, onions and oranges :-)

I bulk on on carbs heavily during the day, I Body-build so up the carbs intake. The easiest way for me to lose weight is I do a rigorous cardio training for about an hour and then hit the weights hard and increase my protein mess and for every kilo I lose I doubled it on the intake of protein and carbs into my diet.

Quit buttered scones, buttered crumpets and buttered teacakes? (in moderation, of course, like All Things)

You gotta be jokin'.
