Quick, panic!

So ... stay away from monkeys and don't have sex with people who have to attended raves in the last 6 months?

I suppose it is good to know that the US military vaccinates for smallpox and has stockpiled sufficient vaccine to handle outbreaks.

Quick, panic!

The contents of the article are exactly the opposite, reading it would help understanding it.

What is the common denominator here causing people in these countries to have a dysfunctional, almost overtaxxed immune system.

What is this based on? there is no report of any immune system problem in the infected people, so this would be completely based on your own ideas about the disease.

This needs to be investigated honestly regardless of the potential fallout.

Something that you imagine may be happening but has not been reported needs to be investigated? Pox viruses do not require immune problems to be transmitted, just close contact which is what is thought to originate the different cases.

They should have used safe practices when performing their actions but unfortunately many do not learn that until too late.

"... likely linked to sex at two recent raves in Spain and Belgium."

Both events, a "Pride" festival in Grand Canaria in early May, and the "Darklands Festival" in Antwerp (about the same time) catered to homosexual / fetish behaviors.

Though not an STD per se, it is spread through physical contact.

The World Health Organization says nearly 200 cases of monkeypox have been reported in more than 20 countries not usually known to have outbreaks of the unusual disease, but described the epidemic as “containable” and proposed creating a stockpile to equitably share the limited vaccines and drugs available worldwide.

More fear mongering by this agency, which isn't even a scientific institute.

As medical professionals know, a weakened immune system is a cause for and increase these infections.

Pox viruses do not require immune problems to be transmitted, just close contact which is what is thought to originate the different cases.

Again, medical professionals know the basic fact that immune problems can contribute to infections by pox viruses. As a basic example, people who have never had chickenpox, have never been vaccinated, or have a compromised immune system are at the highest risk of infection.

More fear mongering by this agency, which isn't even a scientific institute

Describing the outbreak as containable is exactly the opposite of fear mongering, because it clearly says the danger is limited and can be stopped. The world health organization is a scientific institute, else it could not be an international scientific authority.

As medical professionals know, a weakened immune system is a cause for and increase these infections.

That does nothing to disprove the fact that pox viruses can infect people with a normal immune system, so assuming the need of reduced immunity makes no sense.

There is not even a need to be a medical professional to understand there is no requirement, and since this has not been reported anywhere as correlated with the outbreak then there is no point in forcing it as a cause.

Or is it again an attempt of yours to disqualify other people comments because you want to imagine if they are or not medical doctors? that is still against the rules.

It is fear mongering because the danger of the outbreak is limited and can be stopped.

Sounds like you bought into the WHO propaganda, and you even mistakenly refer to it as a scientific institute! You're telling the WHO that you are right, it is wrong????

Its own website states:

*Founded in 1948, WHO is the United Nations* agency

https://www.who.int/about

That does nothing to disprove the fact that pox viruses can infect people with a normal immune system, so assuming the need of reduced immunity makes no sense.

Your explanation does not change the fact that medical professionals know a weakened immune system is a cause of increase in infections, does it?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It is fear mongering because the danger of the outbreak is limited and can be stopped.

That makes no sense, the article is the one saying it, so making sure people do not feel unnecessary anxiety about the outbreak, so the opposite of what fear mongering is.

Sounds like you bought into the WHO propaganda

You mean the public health organizations of the world support the value of the WHO as a scientific organization because of propaganda? that is not believable, it is much more likely you are just wrong and unable to accept it.

Being an agency (or organization, or company, or university, etc.) do not make an institution non-scientific, that is a deep misunderstanding you have, institutions can be agencies and scientific at the same time, what is impossible is for a non-scientific institution to become a scientific authority.

Your explanation does not change the fact that medical professionals know a weakened immune system is a cause of increase in infections, does it?

But it makes it clear it is completely unrelated to the monkeypox outbreak, which is the whole point. Being extremely young also can cause an increase in infections, but it is also unrelated to it, so trying to make the point of this being a cause is also irrational.

You are correct it makes no sense to you.

This opinion of yours does nothing to change the fact that WHO is an agency, not an institute, as it states itself.

We should only be talking about an agency here, because according to WHO, that's what it is.

https://www.who.int/about

But it makes it clear it is completely unrelated to the monkeypox outbreak, which is the whole point. Being extremely young also can cause an increase in infections, but it is also unrelated to it, so trying to make the point of this being a cause is also irrational.

You are the one who brought up the subject:

People who have never had chickenpox, have never been vaccinated, or have a compromised immune system are at the highest risk of infection.

You are correct it makes no sense to you.

Or to anybody that correctly use the term fearmongering, this is easy to prove because you have been unable to disprove the reasons that make it invalid to qualify the article as fearmongering.

This opinion of yours does nothing to change the fact that WHO is an agency, not an institute

It is both, it was instituted as an agency, that does not mean it stops being scientific and much more important it does nothing to demonstrate it is not a well recognized scientific authority whose recommendations and conclusions guide public health policies and medical standards around the world.

You are the one who brought up the subject:

No, that comes from the original comment trying to say this was related, which is false.

What is the common denominator here causing people in these countries to have a dysfunctional, almost overtaxxed immune system.

Since no immune system anomaly has ever been related to the outbreaks this is as relevant as saying the countries have lots of children or proximity to the sea, just irrelevant.

This does not change even if people with bad immunity are more likely to get the disease, because the patients have not immune problems, so it is unrelated unless you can prove this have had any importance for the identified patients.

So ... stay away from monkeys and don't have sex with people who have to attended raves in the last 6 months?

Yes AND stay away from people who have attended raves in the last 6 months and don't have sex with monkeys too.

And just to be on the safe side, stay away from monkeys that have sex with people who have attended raves in the last 6 months and vice versa.

Oh, and wear a mask.
