Took Balls to pull this off.

Which, as the article states; were the only component left out of his new package.

Can't imagine life without the little fella to keep me company.

The entire penis, scrotum and partial abdominal wall came from a deceased donor.

With some luck, it may have been an upgrade !

Does including the scrotum in this case include the testicles? The testicles produce sperm, so that means his children will actually be children of the man from whom the transplant was donated.

I would guess it doesn't. Scrotum is a specific term, and as far as I know only refers to the bag, not the contents within.

The patient retained his prostate gland in the blast, but since he lost his testicles, he will not be able to ejaculate.

Well that's no fun then. :(

So many mind boggling things about this story. First, just knowing that the most intimate part of his body belonged to someone else is trippy.

But as I was reading the first portion of this article, I was wondering about the genetic matter (sperm), and was trying to remember from my high school and college biology classes, how sperm, more specifically how and where genetic matter (DNA) is produced.

I found it extremely interesting that the testicles dictate offspring DNA, so I can totally see this as being an ethics issue. If they had translated the testicles, and was able to father children, then genetically they won't be his kids, but the kids of the deceased person.

So ethically, there could never be a testicle transplant, unless the donor is a live donor and consents to possibly having his genetic offspring being created without him being involved. WOW.

The first time he gets intimate with his girlfriend she might ponder who the heck is she with.

good luck, hope he will have a better life.

"When I first woke up, I felt finally more normal."

Waking up with someone else's penis is probably the only thing that's 'more normal' than w-up without a penis.

The first penis transplant in the world took place in China in 2006, but it was later removed due to "a severe psychological problem of the recipient and his wife," doctors said.

Completely understand the dude's reaction, much less his wife's though. I mean, considering everything he went through, you sort of expect his spouse to support him 100% through this. (a bloke complaining about his wife's breast reconstruction post-mastectomy would be crucified and rightly so)

Transexuals who have had the testicles removed, but still have a penis are still capable of erection, and orgasm.

“Money shot” enthusiasts will however, be disappointed indeed.

Well, I suppose there won't be any need for tissues then. That's a plus.

The article says they were not included due to these very same considerations. It was decided not to transplant them when the programme was planned.

They still have their prostate and Cowper's gland. Plenty of fluid there, just nothing swimming in it!

Wonder which volunteer would have his testicles transplanted ?

My thoughts go to Nagisa Oshima's 'Realm of Senses' [1976] or 'Ai No Corrida' for the better chōkoku :)
