Hotels in Beijing hurting despite Olympic fever

43 days to go games, not very far anymore. Hope all teams especially olympic japan team ready for action. 10500 athletes or over that ,will decide their future sport carrer in sports via these games in beijing.

If sucessful, their economic future is much brighter.

Sports career can bring big income to all successful sportsman/sportswomen especially with the corporate sponsor money/live broadcast money/venue ticket sales.

Sports is about money these days, a gold medal promises cash,good life,nice cars and house.

I didn't think Japanese needed visas to visit China, so tighter visa regulations can't account for the 45% drop in Japanese visitors.

However, average room rates of hundreds of dollars per night and relatively expensive air fares may have something to do with it. Why pay a fortune to visit a polluted dump run by an unelected dictatorship when you could be relaxing on a beach in Thailand for a fraction of the price?

Wow...so much for China's big coming-out party. I wonder if the CCP bureaucrats who advocated Beijing holding the 2008 Olympics are eventually going to charged with "activities against the state". Those poor people will have counterparts in the IOC. I'm glad I got myself a big HD TV.

i am not even want to waste my electricity bill watching this game hosted by a country with a goverment like ... that!!.

This will be a big blow to greedy hotel operators. It's extremely good news for me personally because i was planning to be in China at the time anyway hahaha. I hope hotel prices come down as a sign of competition.

One topic that people have not mentioned is the effect that the tourism failures will have in the real estate boom in Beijing. The prediction of a bust will be realized even before the Olympics are concluded.

i've been to a few Games and even though its a great experience generally, its hard to beat watching them at home...colder beer, no bathroom lines, better food, better view of the action...did i mention colder beer ?
