'Inglourious Basterds' one of many tricky movie titles

Thanks for yet another affirmation of how movie audiences, and the human race at large, is dumbing down at a record pace.

America is great, watching people beat the living h*ck out of each other is fine and dandy, but people get all up in arms over the word a** or Janet Jackson's nipple.

Its all so stupid.

I can understand worrying about kids picking up bad words, but adults should not be offended by thier own language. Sticks and stones....

And who knows HOW this title is going to end up in Japanese... :-/

Moderator: The distributor is using the original title in katakana.

I bet it's renamed to "Nazi Hunter" in Japan.

So is the distributor going to transliterate the title correctly, or is it going to be another "Char-ree-zoo En-jeru" mash-up, this time suggesting that there's only one "Basutard-o"?

Any idea why the release date has been pushed back? It was originally slated in for the first week of October :-(

Please explain, then, why the title words are spelled the way they are.

So he rips off the name from an old Italian movie and changes the spelling to make it look original. Some great "stroke" of artistry.

I saw it on Friday. I loved it.

In the UK I have seen posters for the film with the letters of "basterds" replaced with bullet holes...so there has been censorship issues...

I don't see why this is an issue anyway - it's not being released here until November 20th. Maybe this once again being the last place on Earth where a major motion picture is released will buy the diligent translators a bit of breathing space?

Much ado about a mediocre film... Maybe this empty discussion about the semantics of the title is the focal point of the film.

And above all : fascism, nazism, shoah etc are no material for comedies.

I saw this movie in America on my vacation. Without Brad Pitt this movie is so so !!!! The first 20 minutes of the movie was great. But after that it turns to crap. G.I. Joe is a better movie than this.
