Ivanka Trump. Okay, we assume no further introduction is needed.
And Shukan Bunshun (Feb 23) merely repeats old news when it describes the reaction by America's recently inaugurated chief executive, upon learning that his daughter's line of fashion wear had been taken off the shelves at Nordstrom outlets. President Donald Trump transmitted an angry tantrum via Twitter, saying, " My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible."
One respondent to that tweet by POTUS was somewhat less than sympathetic: A gent with the initials ABI wrote: "@realDonaldTrump @Nordstrom This is your priority as @POTUS? Sad. Maligning an American company? Terrible. #conflictsofinterest." He garnered 1,698 likes.
The Seattle-based department store gave its reason for discontinuing sales as a sharp drop in demand; but the magazine suggests there were also moves afoot by anti-Trump forces in Washington state to launch a boycott of anything bearing the Trump brand.
So be it. But surprise of surprises, a Minato ward-based company named "waja" offers a full line of Ivanka Trump brand goods. And its spokesperson told Shukan Bunshun's reporter that "since Trump's election victory last November, we've received 400 times as many hits to our site as the same month in 2015."
That's not all. "Since the news reports about the Nordstrom flap began appearing, our orders surpassed all of last November in just three days' time," he added.
One of the few retailers that sell Ivanka goods can be found adjacent to the Asakusa ROX building, a somewhat sleazy spot well known for its bump-and-grind striptease performances.
"From around six years ago, we would find the brand in local stores sometimes and buy them, but even when we told customers, 'She's the daughter of the man who owns the famous Trump Tower,' nobody paid much attention," said Chez IBISA proprietor Michiko Tosa. "But with Trump becoming president and all the exposure she got on TV, we sold out our whole stock of Ivanka brand handbags in two weeks."
The one-piece dresses sold in Tosa's store carry a "Made in China" label, but Tosa described their material as "elegant and sinuous."
"They can be worn at work, or evenings, such as at cocktail parties, and have been designed according to the concept of [Ivanka's] own lifestyle."
A Chez IBISA customer voiced praise for her Ivanka brand high-heel shoes with a floral pattern she had previously purchased. "They're easy to wear and the heels aren't too high. I can wear them all day without my feet feeling tired."
"I'd say the three key words the describe the Ivanka brand are 'fashion, function and family,'" remarked Tosa. "Since she comes from a rich family, that's a kind of attraction in itself."
In Japan at least, that's also the kind of merchandise that outsells American cars, the writer quips.

I'm waiting for the Trump party members to say, 'but this is the good made in China stuff', like her daddy's stuff that's also made in China (where he just got CCP approval to use his brand name) plus Mexico and Bangladesh. Trump sect members attacked Clinton as a globalist; could a member of the Trump denomination explain how he's not a globalist, or are you saying he's one of the good globalists?
Was getting his daughter's brand pushed in Japan part of his agreement with PM Abe over dinner at Trump's resort? If so, would that be considered a conflict of interest? I have to think, though, the Trump cultists would say it's the good kind of conflict of interest
Another possibility: Trump, a serial bankrupt-er, might think having her stuff that's made in China turn buyers here off, further weakening her business and setting her up for a bankruptcy to get her off the hook. It might stiff other businesses, but that's never bothered Trump. His loyal followers will no doubt say it's the good kind of stiffing.

Not surprised. There are quite a lot of vapid, politically-apathetic, materialistic airheads in this country, who have to try and keep up with the Joneses. Carrying or wearing brand stuff seems to make them think they're doing well in life.

I've just finished looking at different definitions of 'globalist' and have trouble seeing the differences you do. If - hypothetical, of course - Trump wants to partner with Putin's Russia, would you characterize what they'd be doing under the blanket of globalism? The two claim the US and Russia need to join forces to fight terrorism, and that's probably true. However, fighting terrorism requires military action, in this case a continuation of the invasions of sovereign nations. That sounds like it'd be an extreme form of globalism. Using my definition.
But do you really think they'd stop there? It seems to me people who fear warmongering hegemonic cabals would be concerned.
Point taken. What do you think about the White House spokesperson hawking Trump's products? As someone who's generally espoused free market principles, do you think it was OK for her to use her position, someone with direct access to all forms of media, like she did?

Bwa ha ha, a bunch of dudes (oh and honorary dude Conway) rushing around defending mediocre womens garments. Looking forward to the day Chinese knock off brands like Iwanna Tramp appear on the market. Coming to a supermarket clothing section near you.

@MsDelicious - What a comment ! Sounds like a comment the Toddler-in-Chief himself would make !

Beware of fake goods, folks!

I've never heard about Ivanka except as her father's shadow.
They love cosplay too.
1glenn
The daughter of the president trying to use her connections to make a quick buck. The apple certainly did not fall far from the tree.
TorafusuTorasan
Ivanka showed her business savvy by ending her employment with the fashion label last month. The people still expending energy promoting it--most notably Kelly-Anne Conway and fanboys--come across as fools.

allow me to quote Bill Mahar- "Yo Ivanka, try HARDER!"

Please don’t let Trump see this. Otherwise he will tweet embarrassingly:-
“Wow! After my daughter Ivanka mistreatment by Nordstrom, her brand is now the best selling fashion brand in Japan! Nice. I always knew Japanese people were very smart and intelligent. NICE. BIGLY!”
Strangerland
I actually like Ivanka. I watched the Apprentice when he was doing it, and she was on it quite a lot, giving unfiltered opinions. I generally agreed with her commentary, but not always with his. She seems pretty intelligent.
And even though I'm not into blonds, she's beautiful. Pretty hard to deny that.
smithinjapan
Because they have no morals? Nothing quite like a brand name and forgetting the fact that the woman represents the man who said he can grab them by the genitals any time he wants and get away with it.
Carolee Thumma
Its quite commonly known that almost all of her pieces go on "clearance" sooner or later. Look up her line in pictures, not online sales pic's but where news shows put the pictures up or shoppers put them up and most of them have either the words "sale" or "clearance" on them. Nordstroms said they informed Ivanka in 2016 that if her line didn't pick up sales from 26% they would have to discontinue it. It didn't rise, they got rid of it. She knew it was going to happen.
Check her clothes out, go into the stores and look at them. They are plain and not stylish at all.
toolonggone
Ms Delicious: Her dresses are made to look good on healthy bodies. That is why they will do well in Japan. The bigger American women get, the less likely they will buy Ivanka dresses which are tailored to lovely healthy bodies.
Just to note:
http://www.denverpost.com/2016/09/09/a-correlation-between-obesity-and-presidential-preference/
Also, nine of the top ten poorest states tend to vote Republican. This would suggest that her target audience is rich, thin Democrats and I don't see them as being too interested in what she has to sell.
gokai_wo_maneku
According to the US guys at the office, the rumor is that the reason her clothes don't sell well is that the largest size is US 16, which is too small for the mostly "heavyset" female customers of Nordstroms. They fit well on most Japanese women, especially young ones.
Tatanka
16 is the new size 6 in America for women. As the saying goes "If you are built like a tank, don't wear the top."
MsDelicious
Physically healthy women fit Ivanka's designs perfectly. She totally realizes that being obese is not healthy nor not cute.
smithinjapan
Because shoppers in Japan leave their morals at the door. They still think wearing fur is a symbol of beauty and status!
theeastisred
The only reason the brand existed in the first place was because of the last name, and because Ivanka herself is some people's idea of beauty. Not surprising that the business is crashing and burning now due to daddy's unpopularity, though no doubt with a much weaker pull in the other direction from fans. Any sales in Japan are just due to novelty value and will soon dry up as fads tend to do.
lostrune2
Ivanka seems a nice woman. But as a businessman, Trump should had known that business comes down to numbers - he shouldn't had made it personal and caused a conflict of interest.
If the numbers aren't there, then the numbers just aren't there. If Ivanka's stuff aren't selling at Nordstrom, then it's just not selling, and Nordstrom is in their right business mind to drop her.
Trump and his aides shouldn't had butted in a business transaction when it's not warranted.

This stuff just writes itself doesn't it?

karlrb at Feb. 20, 2017 - 09:30AM JST American women are generally fat compared to the Japanese or most other Asians.
Tch, tch, tch. "Fat"? Rubenesque!
knight_of_Honour
It seems that liberals just want to make trouble for the Trumps and the USA. They do not present any good reasons for their actions and destroy property with riots for no good purpose. Good for Japanese markets on those products.
Dre Hund
Hey T -Bird, a lot of people voted for Zgrump because they didn't have a job. Zgrump's message was distinctly for them. Of course you could read what the president of Sweden just wrote..he's outside the loop...
Mlodinow
Does anyone else remember when Sarah Palin first appeared on the scene & suddenly became a big hit in Japan for her glasses? Can definitely draw parallels between that & this apparent popularity of Ivanka's apparel. I guess most Japanese couldn't care less what USA politicians say, just how they look when they speak their "truthiness".
igloobuyer
And I thought Japanese had real taste in clothes.
MARIA_ANTONIETE
I don't see anything wrong in Ivanka's collection. They must look great in most of Japanese. Good for Ivanka , good for those who like that style ¡
gokai_wo_maneku
It is said that pushing Ivanka's brand in Japan was the reason that she attanded the first meeting between Trump and Abe.
Thunderbird
HATERS, haters everywhere! You can't read a single twit from Trump without hordes of people commenting pointless stuff and attacking their own president, a great deal of americans just have too many time to spare stalking people online, go get a job!

From the picture you can easily see these clothing items are not presented very well. To me it looks like an end-cap (end of isle) at TJ Maxx (clothing discounter). To market something like this to Women you need to go a few more steps up in presentation. = Japanese Women clothing stores can do a much better job at selling the Ivanka Trump brand at retail than Canadian retail clothing stores and hence sales in Japan of the Ivanka Trump brand are much higher.
Aside from retail, the online sales of this brand a very good. = Also a good indicator of poor retail (floor) placement and poor retail marketing of the Ivanka Trump brand.
MsDelicious

More people are fat, but more people have a better shape as well. Japanese tend to keep the shape of a child even when they get older. The Japanese clothes that have no shape to them don't help matters, either.
wtfjapan
*The bigger American women get, the less likely they will buy Ivanka dresses which are tailored to lovely healthy bodies * wow that's a way of saying American women are fat, could be also said that Ivanka dresses don't suit Japanese women as they dont have the assets to fill them.
bass4funk
I agree. Apparently, her product line is supposed to be very good and if it sells, why not? If the Japanese women like it, that's good. If you don't like her father that's one thing, punishing her or her product because you don't like Trump is naive and stupid. Ivanka is not her father and he is not her. People need to learn how to separate and not conflate the two. If her product sells well and people like it, good on them and good on her. Ivanka throughout the beginning of the campaign until this day, she has always acted professionally and passionately and the issues that are important to her. I want someone, anyone to show me a time where she acted in a mean-spirited way that was rude and offensive that deserves condemnation and scorn.
FizzBit
Obviously, you have no idea what the word means or the differences between an international business and a globalist.
Now who's the conspiracy theorist?
Forget the conspiracy. Welcome to Fantasy Island!
Really not surprising about Ivanka's product line selling well here. Ivanka dresses like a lady and take a look at her dresses. I can see why the Japanese ladies would like them.

Aside from the "haters" who say that someone like me, who voted for DJT via absentee ballot from Kyoto, are members of some sort of 50 million member "sect", I am pleased to hear that the stylishness as well as cache of Ivanka's clothing line - has an increase in popularity judged by these recent sales in Japan.
The hateful bitter losers of the US elections can take their delicate offence stick it... on the top shelf somewhere.
Republicans and millions of ordinary folks who have been sick of corruption by the ever expanding self-entitled nanny staters who believed they were destined to control my life forever - we won.
Those who vehemently and salaciously attack DJT, lost.
Gone from official power. Exposed and denied.
Now, lets all go out and check out that Ivanka line of clothing and see what all the chatter is about, decide for yourself. Would you look good in an Ivanka dress?
I dont recommend it for DJT haters: the steam of dark mascara in your salty tears, and bizarrly applied lipstick due to your angry shaking, would ruin the good dress.
It might tarnish the image, the brand. And we wouldnt want that, no sir. What's their website? Ivankatrumo dot com?
