Fuji TV tries to retain presenter Christel Takigawa

French-Japanese TV presenter Christel Takigawa, 31, has been a consistent ratings winner for Fuji TV each night from 11:30 p.m. Maybe she is just the tonic that tired workers need when they arrive home. While many agencies and advertising companies offer her freelance assignments, Fuji is eager to retain her.

“Fuji TV seems to have already decided to launch a new company by December together with her management company, Cent Force, which has lots of popular female TV presenters such as Mao Kobayashi,” says a TV insider. A spokesperson for Fuji says, “We cannot comment on it at the moment. But we will shortly make an announcement.”

Why would Fuji launch a new company? Another TV insider points out Takigawa's affiliation is the key issue. He says, “Simply speaking, Fuji is trying to retain Takigawa by launching a new company so she can appear not only Fuji's programs but also its TV commercials and magazines. Fuji doesn't want her to transfer to another agency.”

Takigawa is not actually affiliated directly with Fuji TV but to its subsidiary company Kyodo Television. Currently, her annual income is believed to be about 9 million yen. But insiders say it is already the maximum salary for an employee of the company. The new company is expected to raise her income.

Gossip reporter Kozo Inoue says, “Kyoko Uchida, an ex-Fuji announcer, now earns 20 million yen per TV commercial. Many companies are eager to feature Takigawa in their commercials. I'd say she could earn at least 50 million yen a year very easily.” (Translated by Taro Fujimoto)

Who decides that she's French-Japanese and not Japanese-French?? Huh, who does it...WHO!!!!!!!!!

Ah, Christel Waterfall River, who looks up at a camera placed slightly above her so that she can look even cuter than she actually is (because faces are more attractive viewed from slightly above). Yeah, underpaid, but she has a great wardrobe.

Christel Takigawa, 31

Oh man, nobody told me about this.

She looks matronly. That might be part of her appeal. The expression she has is definately matronly, whilst her boosom may not be her expression is...yup!!

9 mil a year to read a teleprompter. Go figure.

That's certainly going out on a limb - 50 mil per year vs 20 mil per CM. Personally, I hope Takigawa goes indie and pulls in as much as the chumps are willing to pay her. She's great. Even if she just reads a teleprompter.

right lets get this straight..1- she gets a poor wage thats for sure. 2 - People who think its all easy and teleprompter don't know jack about TV news reader's job. The level of preparation and concentration during a live show is immense on them. They have to maintain their clear accents, not make a mistake and make sure they time their words so that it matches the programme's requirements. If your image of these TV new readers are people who get dressed, sit at the news table and just read the teleprompt then you belittling someone's profession out of pure ignorance. Trust me, I was married to one before and know what their job entails..to my marriage's detriment.

forgot to mention that I am not a fan of Cristel at all...such a boring, unemotional face....its like she can't be bothered half the time.

i'd take Tomoe Genzaki over Christel Takigawa, on any day of the millenium.

The French? Seriously, perhaps she carries a J-Passport making her a J-national of French descent, ie; French-Japanese.

Yeah reading a teleprompter is a lot like, oh I don't know, laying asphalt, loading or unloading trucks, or solving engineering formulas. I never realized what a tough job the news readers have. They are in the profession here in Japan for looks, not talent. Look at the giggling air heads on Minomonta's show. That is the rule not the exception in Japan. Cristel is the exception.

ptolemy> everyones job can seem basic from the outside...I could probably use your logic and make you should like a man with an IQ of 50, but that MAYNOT be the truth....you should try to think abit more before you post these things...btw how does minamonta's variety shows have anything to do with a TV programme?

I like her. She seems a lot more classy than most of the over-cutesy airhead presenters in Japan.

kenchan this is JT, not a serious discussion, and my IQ is lower than 50 I'll have you know.

Her cutesy 'bon weekend' 'bonne soirée' are annoying considering she started her career going by her Japanese name. Then she went back to Christel presumably to cash in on the half thing.

Says it all. The implicit understanding that workers come home at 11.30PM, undoubtedly roll into bed, grab a bit of sleep, rise early and continue on with the grind. Geeez. What a life.

Compare that with the life of a teleprompter reading talking head. Or is there a comparison?

I thought she was 100% Jpnese, to be honest. Then Troussier declared his admiration for her on tv, no doubt b/c of French genes. Then rumours about marrying Dabadie. 'whatever'..

Or for a long, lazy lunch.

I can see the appeal she has on poodles, French or otherwise.

Good for her, I hope she gets everything she can!
