i will feel the same as i did on 06/06/06, 07/07/07, 05/05/05 and so on. some of these dates had "specialness" attatched - soome good and some not so good. i will tell you, though, i will pause at 11:00 on that day to honor all who have and are serving my country.

Agreed, sillygirl. At 8pm Japan time we will be silent and remember them. We do it every year. Its really important to me that my kids understand it and do it too.

All those 11s...spells potato in binary I think.

Since the Japanese are into marrying on auspicious days (for a good marriage rather than relying on knowing each other!), I wonder if there are some who have booked a wedding on 11/11/11 at 11a.m./p.m.?!

Wonder if there are celebrations planned on 11/11/11 for all time zones or just for 11/11/11 GMT? It'll be cool if it's treated like New Year's Eve ("11/11/11 here in Tokyo!", "11/11/11 here in Lima!")

I know at least one couple here planning to register their marriage on 11/11/11 at 11:11, not so much for the auspiciousness of the date (in Japan, auspicious dates for weddings are based on Buddhist traditions, generally) but simply because it makes for a hard-to-forget anniversary.

mackemack

Made me laugh.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Pocky day?? Indeed I will celebrate!!!

On a serious note, I will give my respects to those who lost their lives for me. Much more important to me than sweets or some spaceship that may come to get us all...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

we will all feel the same, unless something else happens at that exact moment, which could have happened at any other moment...

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Lest We Forget.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

But wait, it's 23/11/11 here. Is it 100/11/11 in Taiwan? or still 99/11/11?

Also, by my reckoning, Benedict would already be the 112th, if Pope Joan hadn't been struck from the books, but then I'm sure there are other irregularities that have been ignored for convenience. (like when there was more than one pope at a time,...)

Oh well, I agree it would make for an easy to remember anniversary.

I however, with spend my Rememberance Day as usual. Remembering.

Its a very special date because its the birthday of a person very dear to me (sadly, not his 11th birthday, that would have been neat) but apart from that all this rubbish about auspicious numbers and shifts in human consciousness is so much poppycock. There is nothing universal or mystic about any number or date...they just happen to be the way they are because we have ten fingers and that made it easier for us to count in tens. Dunno if mackemack is right, but would anyone get all mystic over the Day of the Potato?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Some genius at 7-11 Iholdings is going to come up with a campaign for this I'm sure.

Cleo there are many people who are born with 11 fingers. Doctors promptly remove that rare digit in 99% of those cases.

I'd like to predict the end of the world now so hopefully I'll get credit for it. Am I too late? Anybody beat me to it? Nothings going to happen. Go back to sleep.

Might be a great opportunity to have a baby. I'm sure some obsessed pregnant women ready to deliver want to hit that date and time exactly. Then they'll name the child Jun-ichi. So silly.

One word. Skyrim!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

What would that look like in binary or hexidecimal? Nothing special at all.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

And next year there will be 12.12 12/12/12 so what, it means nothing, people read too much into nothing sometimes.

From Israeli-born psychic Uri Geller

Hmmm . . . I thought this fraud had all but owned up to his con and stopped calling himself psychic. How wrong I was.

We got married on 5th May, just so the date would always be a national holiday, but by coincidence we turned up at the ward office in late afternoon, and the time stamp for receiving our documents was 5.55pm - so basically Go Go Go Go Go!!!! Not sure if the celestial message was "go for it" or "leave leave leave leave leave!" but for now I am sticking with the positive side ;-) !

The author has forgotten to mention Germany. Every year on 11th November at 11:11 o'clock is the start of the fifth season in the year: the carnival season in the areas near to the Rhein River.

Then the carnival chanting starts: Helau and Alaaf!

If we still used Roman Numerals, this would not work.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I remember the day for one thing only: I thank all veterans, past and present, for their service.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Yep! 11/11/11, Skyrim. Can't wait.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

My dog is looking forward to it; he'll bark with abandon.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Nothing will happen.. nothing is different.. nothing to see here.. move right along

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Skyrim is falling!!!

I'm saving mine for 12/12/12... what a load of people wanting attention making a big deal out of a date?!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Ok, slow news day?? 11/11/11/11 hmmm, so what??

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@oh really Elbuda...sense of humour breakdown?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I'd ordinarily agree with most of you, but it just so happens that through my extensive biblical studies and 11 visions, it's been revealed to me that the 11:11 on the 11th of the 11th will be the start of the judgement and the end of the world.

For a small donation I can tell you how to be one of the elect who is spared. Mock at your own peril.

Maybe I am a bit of a hippie, but I have noticed 11/11's whenever I have had a major change in my life; good or bad. They just seem to start popping up all over the place. And I began to like the number 11 at a very spiritual time in my life. Weird but I feel there is something to it...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

This is plain and in full sight b...........s..................!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I will concur about the skyrim. 11/11/11 is going to be a good day. 12/20/11 will also be a gooder day =)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I have a similar thing with 2s dolphingirl.

While I attach no spiritual value to this, as our numbers were made by us and most anything using numbers were assigned those numbers arbitrarily by us, it is still interesting. You cannot really compare it to 12/12/12 coming next year, or 10/10/10, or 09/09/09 before because those consist of two digits. This time its, one digit, the number one, all the way, minus of course the fact that its 2011.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

so what happened in November 11, 1111?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I will celebrate by holding 2 Pocky sticks in each hand and eating them at 11:11.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Sorry Rainman, not impressed by this news, not into numerology 666?? blah, blah, blah just wish I could find something remotely funny in this piece of news, wow maybe Rainman is right! Maybe just maybe I am loosing my sense of humor! OMG!! 666 maybe tattooed to the back of my eyelids?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@Elbuda: TWAT. It's not news.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Actually, it's 2011/11/11 11:11. We missed the REAL string of 1's by 900 years.

Of course there's going to be no cosmic reaction to this because the calendar and our method of keeping time are completely arbitrary. We could have started our years in the middle of Summer and based our time on a 20-hour day which would make 11/11/11 11:11 occur on May 11th sometime in the early afternoon. The cosmos couldn't care less about that particular string of numbers.

Fadamor,

Yep, the concept of time measurement that we observe today is purely a human creation. To an alien's watch/clock, that same exact moment of time would have quite different symbols/representation.

Happy Veterans Day to all those who served on this week's "fateful date"
