A rare event: Oiran courtesans to take to the streets under fireworks at Edo Wonderland this Saturday

In celebration of its 35th year since opening, Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura will hold a special Autumn Night in Edo event to express gratitude for the support given from its loyal customers over the past 3 and a half decades.

Taking place on Saturday, the event will recreate the scenery of a classic Edo era town during the autumn season, with the main spectacle being the traditional dance of the Oiran as 1,000 fireworks go off in the night sky above.

Experience a fantastic night like no other in Nikko’s Edo Wonderland as the sky is dyed with the bright colors of 1,000 fireworks. The fireworks are scheduled to be launched from the commercial district of Edo Wonderland at 6:20 p.m.

Night Oiran Dance

Witness the traditional dance of the Oiran as she parades her way down the commercial district streets of Edo Wonderland, only this time, she’ll be walking under the light of a 1,000 fireworks.

The Oiran dance is scheduled to start at the same time as the firework display from 6:20 p.m.

Held only at Edo wonderland after dark, participate and test your luck against the gambling masters of Edo Wonderland. Do you think you can win big?

Get involved with the traditional games from 4:40 p.m. to 6:10 p.m.

Night Fair

The sun may have gone down, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to come to an end.

Enjoy some after-dark merriment to the sound of autumn festival music at the numerous stalls and carts selling trinkets, tasty treats and drinks. At Edo Wonderland, there’s something for everyone.

Ninja School – Sword Fighting Experience

An active ninja has gone rogue on stage at the Karasu Ninja Mansion, and it’s up to the audience to stop him. Will you pick up a sword and take on the ninja?

Take part in the performance from 4:40 p.m. to 5:10 p.m., and from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

*This stage performance features audience participation, and the "sword fight" choreography will be guided by the performing ninja.

Date: Saturday Oct 30 *In the case of stormy weather, the event will be postponed to Sunday Oct 31

No, geisha, maiko and Iran are different.

Oiran can be differentiated by their very elaborate hairdos and the fastening of the obi sash at the front, for ease of removal.
