In Western countries, they say that “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Oddly enough, Japan uses the similar phrase: “Otoko gokoro wo tsukamu ni wa ibukuro kara,” or “you can snatch a man’s heart if you start with his stomach.”
A local Twitter user managed to find a coffee store in the Okubo area of Tokyo that might have taken this phrase a step too far, however.
Included on the store’s outside sign board, where normally you’d find today’s specials, was the coffee shop’s secret recipe for catching a man.
How to get a boyfriend
Step 1: Order some of our coffee to go. Step 2: Give the coffee to the boy you’re interested in and say, “If it’s tasty, go out with me!” Step 3: Don’t worry, because our coffee is delicious. He will be obligated to go out with you. *Note: In the unlikely case that the boy in question declines your offer, return to our store. We will then give you scalding hot coffee to throw in the boy’s face.
So all you single men out there, keep an eye out. If a girl comes up to you offering coffee, you may have found yourself a date! But remember what might happen if you refuse…

Step 4: Don't forget to check if he has a VISA Gold or Platinum when he open his wallet to pay.

I was all for good marketing up till the throw it in his face part!

Here's a tip: they need to add another note at the bottom to spell out they are joking, for those without a sense of humor.

A happy stomach is only an efficient way to KEEP a man. So is a good sense of humor and a pleasant conversation. But the first thing guys want to satiate is not the stomach...

Well, if the advice isn't to avoid a bob haircut, cutting your bangs straight or cutting your hair really short, how useful can it really be?

Only if you are too stupid to realize that its humor. Prosecuting someone for this would be such an Americanism.

Being yourself, being nice and friendly and socializing are the Best ways to get a boyfriend…..No Rules at all
But in Japan , most women here are not looking for a boyfriend… Many are looking for financial sponsors hehehehe,

I dunno, the "throw scalding hot coffee in his face" part sorta put me off. There are really ppl who do stuff like that, and unfortunately they are more common than you think, so I can't feel jokey about it.

A suitably childish article for a childish country!

A gal could spill coffee in a guy's lap(not scalding hot, of course) and offer to clean it up.

I think its cute and funny, and I definitely think Japanese girls need to be more assertive about choosing the guys they want rather than waiting for the guy to ask them out. Like him? Then TALK TO HIM.
I actually had a conversation with a Japanese co-worker who had been eyeing a guy for ages, but didn't want to make the first move. She was so terrified of rejection. I asked her to consider it from his perspective... maybe he was terrified of rejection too? .... she had never thought of that. facepalm

All fine until the "note" part. What creature came up with that "humor"? Anyone else find it sad that women here need this "advice" to finding an ATM to marry?

"I think it's kind of cute and funny"
Yes, it would be so funny to see a guy's face burned with scalding coffee. Wait... no, actually it wouldn't be.

Fun advertising. Pity so many seem to lack a sense of humor.

Agree, j-people lost their cooking skills. Am surprised how many of my j-friends comment on my cooking, baking and tell me to open my own restaurant. Wait till they taste what my mother back home serves.

What's an ATM? Seems like a pretty extreme demand to make on one's man, no?

Reminds me of Danny Dyers' advice column in Nuts magazine.

for 150 yen you can have me!

are there no incitement laws in Japan? Yikes
valekt
I think some people are overreacting. I also think Japan could do with more humour.
The line of thought that they're inciting people to commit crime is dangerously close to 'she was wearing a miniskirt - she was asking for it'.
On the other hand, Japanese language is a different beast to English, so the command to "ぶっかけろ" is a little different to the passive English.
Ah man, now I'm conflicted!

I have heard that plenty of the staff at Starbucks oare on the lookout for a boyfriend amongst their clientele.......
zenkan
Well, that's incitement to commit a violent act. The shop owner should be prosecuted.
nath
I laughed out loud at this. Can it work the other way? Like, can I use this method on a girl? I kinda wanna try it... especially if they shoot me down. "This coffee is as hot as the love I once felt for you!" I'm happy to see some humor here in Japan. It sure beats the usual advertising!

Bank machine. The only thing that really matters to most Japanese females looking to get married.

A new low (and that's saying something) on how to get a boyfriend/girlfriend.

That is because Japanese girls no longer know how to or do not want to know how to.. cook food.
