Woof, woof...that is why they are man's best friend.

Wonderful animals are dogs, but why people still don't get as where else they clean with their tongues... Don't them French kiss you. Bad idea.

You really don't need some study to verify this. Sometimes I wonder if such researchers can't think of something more worthwhile to research other then something that is commonly known already?

A young puppy, like a human child if mistreated in its infancy will absolutely ALWAYS grow up into a violent canine that will eventually lash back violently. Have seen this happen several times.

What does that have to do with the study this article is talking about?

What a waste of time.

I've got the sweetest whippet in the world, but if a home intruder knocked me senseless and proceeded to ransack my home for valuables (good luck!), he'd be totally cool with it all if given a doggie snack first. Priorities.

Good Idea. However, 18 x 3 is not even close to a valid sample size. Consequently all their effort is worthless, though it probably wasn't a lot of effort with just that few dogs. Most likely those "researchers" where just a bunch of students guided by their prof. Though it's unbelievable how a "professor" would think that was a valid experiment.

This is ridiculous. The entire reason dogs BECAME self-domesticated 10K years ago was BECAUSE they exhibited this trait.

Do they really think they discovered something new?

It's also interesting to note that several other animal "studies" that showed some kind of animal intelligence were later showed to have been poorly designed, as unconscious bias of testers and subjects were influencing the test.

One of many reasons dogs are so very clearly superior to cats.

Yes it is true. They also realize when their owner doesn't like a particular person, or if their owner is scared or feels threatened. On one occasion my dog chased away a person who had been stalking me for some time and every time he comes near my house, car or me, the dog will bark its head off and show its teeth. P.s.- my dog is a VERY gentle, quiet dog.

And in the case of Mel Gibson's dog in Mad Max 2, he's downright hostile to those who are mean to his owner, ha ha!
