Yubaru, I spend a LOT of my waking life in Tokyo keeping away from smokers just like you. Walking away from their thoughtless puffing of cancer clouds into the general air, keeping out of restaurants with ashtrays, etc. Second hand smoke is no joke. Not to mention the constant litter. I wonder, do you carry a portable butt-purse or do you toss the finished off cancer stick onto the ground for the rest of us to deal with? How responsible are you for your drug habit? From you comments, I suspect: not much. Typical. Sorry, but your comment is really irritating.

Most young Japanese people still think smoking is "cool" and show no intention of gving up anytime soon.

More than 50% of young Japanese are smokers? I think not.

It doesn't matter if they're more toxic to the morons who choose to use them. That's just a part of natural selection. What matters is they're less toxic to the innocent bystanders breathing the same air as the junkie.

I've been using IQOS since October 2015 just to give it a try. gave it 2 weeks and tried going back to regular cigarettes... the regular cigarettes taste horrible. i cannot go back to regular cigarettes. Now that ive been using IQOS since 2015, i can breath better, my clothes smell better, i can walk and smoke without getting caught, its safer and theres no smell. I highly recommend getting IQOS for you regular smokers. Now smoking regular cigarettes is so...1970.

Sounds like a good stepping stone to quitting. Having watched many people (relatives and not) die from smoking, I can tell you your odds for a diminished lifespan are very good. I hope you can make that step (quitting) for your own good.

In Japan you cannot buy nicotine laced e-juice for Vaping... its an illegal substance. Japanese smokers know they cannot Vape so they have developed a taste for e-cigarettes.... but it might be only a matter of time before the govt outlaws them too..... typical Japan.

They do seem better than regular cigarettes. But not as good as you know, no cigarettes.

@Keitai, exactly :D you get it! As a non-smoker I want to thank you for realizing how much better it makes both our lives xD. Not having that cigarette odor clinging to your clothes and hair makes you get to enjoy fresh air all the more as well as more pleasant to be around.

Not gonna tell you to quit, but you've made the better choice than regular smokes. Kudos!

Good Bad NovenachamaAUG. 16, 2016 - 11:15AM JST E-cigarettes are more toxic than traditional cigarettes because the e-cigarette liquid is absorbed into your system much more quickly than tobacco smoke, even after dilution. One reason why e-cigarettes are causing so many poisoning is because they are synthesized in a lab and loaded with heavy metal, solvents, and many toxic chemicals. The cigarette vapor contains tin, copper, nickel, and silver silicate beads. Many of these chemical can cause respiratory distress and disease. People who have inhaled the e-cigarette are reporting trouble breathing, cough, sore throat, chest pains, and cardiovascular problems. So there is nothing cool about vapor nor is it glamorous or sophisticated. In the end why should you smoke poison.

I have NO idea why Novenachama is getting down voted on this. A poison is a poison no matter how "cool" or new the technology is.

Both are cancer sticks

E Cig's are becoming more and more popular and JT better get on the bandwagon fast.

Demand for iQOS, which is made in Malaysia, has outstripped demand,

Demand has outstripped supply......

@Traveling Sales exactly. It doesn't bother me when they're smoking e-cigs. It bothers me when they're smoking regular cigs that affect me as well.

JT will get with the programme. An e cig with cute mascot or marketed by scantily clad lovelies.

Support every "No Smoking" establishment you can find, and I mean 100%, not some fallacious (lunchtime only) compromise. Come on, Japan, ban smoking on the streets and inside everywhere. Join the civilized world. Prepare for 2020 Olympics. I don't care what sort of new-fangled stick people are jamming into their druggie faces. Keep them away from, y'know, breathers.

Two friends of mine who were long term heavy smokers both quit with vaping. It was, according to both of them quite painless. They just reduced the amount of nicotine until they were just inhaling water vapour. Before this, they had tried cold turkey, cutting down and nicotine patches. As a way to quit smoking, it seems to work.

i switched to vaping because as they say with cigs its the nicotine that hooks you and tar that kills you. while admittedly vaping is not good for you, it not as bad for you than cigs. there are apparently over 4000 chemical compounds given off by burning tobacco which has been treated with chemicals, 43 carcinogenic. the ingredients in vape are glycerin, an organic compound found in vegetables, propylene glycol, which is used in things like asthma inhalers, nicotine and small amounts of flavoring. while there are studies that say that vape does give off carcinogens, it varies between vape juice brands and the amount of heat applied, they are no where near the amount given off by cigs.i suspect that they come from the flavoring as the by product of the glycerin and propylene glycol is water vapor

Wow, Japan Tobacco has it tough! They have to compete with Phillip Morris E-Cigs AND find more than 160,000 new customers every year because thats how many Japanese smokers, health studies say, die every year from smoking related illnesses.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Although this is not healthy, at least the health damage is confined to the smoker...so it is an improvement.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Its not about toxicity or bad chemicals.... its about market share and taking it away from the powers that be.

The e-cigarette market is a very innovative market - many new products!

However:

A) The liquid for vaping with nicotine is sold via the Internet B) To sell cigarettes via the Internet is against the law

PS: The French government is passing a new law. It will be against the law to sell the e-liquid via the Internet.

@TheRat Because claiming e-cigs are worse than real cigs simply isn't true. Of course the best thing would be no kind of cigs at all, but that's just not reality right now.

You can import your own ejuice in small quantities. Beats smoking for sure.

About half of the people who don't quit smoking will die of smoke-related health issues. So to quit smoking is one of the most important measures one can take to eliminate a possible cause of death and improved health is on of the primary reasons to stop smoking. Everyone agrees that quitting is not easy. Many people encounter weight gains, irritability and anxiety but these are short-term effects. Also, it takes several attempts before one is finally able to quit. Some stop cold turkey, others reduce gradually. The process can be aided by programs, counseling, medicines and products that help reduce nicotine gradually. On the average smokers lose ten years of their life because of smoking. So quit right away and reclaim your life and never, never, give up. You can overcome any challenge you face in your life.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Quitting is easy.

It's the not starting again that is difficult.

I wouldn't worry too much about future profits at JT. Most young Japanese people still think smoking is "cool" and show no intention of gving up anytime soon.

You have your right, and I have mine as well. I make a conscience effort to avoid non smokers, however YOU do not have a right to infringe on my right to smoke either.

Keep yourself away from my smoke!
