Sex tourism is nothing new for Thailand.

Hey, whatever floats your boat. I haven't a clue about this subculture, but it can't be worse than Johnny's Jimusho, Japan's most mainstream form of pretty boy entertainment.

I remember a former student of mine maybe two years ago, who worked for a video importing company in Japan, told me that her company was switching from importing Chinese TV dramas to importing Thai BL videos. I didn’t understand what she was talking about when she said the name, so she had to explain it to me. I guess her company must be doing pretty well now

Count me out but there's something for everybody in Thailand. The people are much friendlier than in Japan so that's a plus.

If only メルヘンチッ ク Japan could embrace truth in advertising and be true to itself. The potential is there to clean up big time for these sorts of things.

Absolutely demeaning..

I first learned of BL thru Southpark. The Asian girl students were drawing illustrations of their male classmates in homoerotic situations. However, the guys weren’t gay and so they got really peeved. Hilarious.

I am sure the writer is proud of this little wink at those who put together homosexuality and sex tourism in Thailand, of which many seem to be in the comments here. Considering the extent of the sex industry in Japan, it is interesting to see how many associate BL dramas and Thailand to sex tourism, as if one would associate Korean romantic dramas to prostitution in Seoul.

There's no other country in the world where paying for sex is so normalised, traditional, and so not-regarded as immoral, as in Japan. So it's not a surprising assumption to make. Many of the adult establishments in Thailand and Vietnam have Japanese owners.

can't imagine why you got down-voted for that.... awful lot of negativity and intolerance here lately....

Probably be better to promote consensual relations between men than mention anything to do with boys. Thailand already has a bad reputation for child exploitation.

Gay Bangkok OK (I don't think of this as BL, but more as a grown up and mature gay storyline. The story is really great. The first season did so well that they got more money for a much longer and nicer (higher production value) second season.
