Do what’s best for you, we are all different you see. Otherwise have a nice cup of coffee or summink.
Gene Hennigh
At my age, napping is not a 30 -minute thing. It would be, if I took four 30-minute naps a day. There is nighttime, daytime, and nap time. About the same amount of time for each of the 3.
timeon
it usually a 10 mins or so nap after lunch for me, playing some relaxing music and closing the eyes for a while. It does replenish some batteries and I do feel more energetic after that at the office

I mean, is any of this new? The term power nap was first coined in the late 1990s but the idea had been around a long time before that. And knowledge of circadian rhythms even longer. Siestas, anyone? That practice is thousands of years old.
The "least effective" of naps, placebo or caffeine? Good advice.
virusrex
For a moment I was wondering how they could "placebo" the naps, then realized that obviously the placebo is only in comparison with the caffeine.
Hawk
Clarified in the next paragraph:
"“We showed better effects with the placebo on performance than with the caffeine,” she said. “So if you think you’re getting caffeine, you’re going to perform better than if you actually get caffeine.”"
Raw Beer
Yeah, carbs will do that....
virusrex
So carbohydrates facilitate the benefits the article is talking about.

All options that have been recognized as unhealthy by the medical consensus, and that elevate several kinds of risks, even of developing diabetes in some cases. On top of that they would interfere with the recommendations on this article? they seem worse and worse.
So they can settled naturally into the napping routine that sleep experts recommend. And improve motor skills, enhance memory and boost creativity

Lunchtime we eat salads with nuts, fish or meat.

Maybe because they ate meat for lunch?

Raw Beer
Seems like a good lunch; I suspect it doesn't make you feel groggy.

Naps suck! The absolute worst for me.
I'm happy for whoever can benefit from them!
Bad Haircut
Funny that. I used to always crash soon after lunch if I had pasta, potatoes, rice or bread. Since shifting to ketovore, that crash no longer happens and I have a consistently higher level of concentration throughout the day.
Raw Beer
Exactly! But it seems many here prefer feeling groggy....
wallace
I eat carbs for breakfast and dinner and have no problems with them.
Hawk
I never crash or feel groggy. I eat a balanced diet, get exercise and fresh air and a good night's sleep. Even without a good night's sleep - life happens - I feel fine through the day.

French, Spanish, Italians and Mediterranean people frequently take afternoon naps.
virusrex
Which the article mentions as the placebo option, demonstrably the worst.
You mean the experts recommend to have a nap in the afternoon because of the demonstrable benefits, to prefer the best option is not something to be surprised about.

A successful 20-minute nap in the middle of the day is one of the most satisfying and productive things to do with my time. Conversely, being awake for one hour or more in the night for no good reason is one of the most unsatisfying and unproductive things to do with my time. I swear time goes fastest during that period.
