I had to wait a few years before I could get a "walkman", or rather, a cheaper version. The dear parent would get stamps every time the car was filled up at the petrol station. Eventually, we had enough stamps to send away for the device.

I was thrilled when it arrived. Even if the sound of the motor in the device was loud and the machine was a bit clunky.

Happy days.

Japan and Sony keeping going back to the dawn and golden age of the Walkman.

But if you think about it, it was about 40 years ago which is a lifetime when it comes to tech.

This constant waxing nostalgic for this makes me feel as if Japan Inc.'s glory days are long gone.

I liked the Walkman, don't get me wrong, but it's time to move on from the 70s and early 80s.

I loved my Walkmans, yes, I owned a few, one even had stereo mike for recording. They has terrific analogue sound, not like the compressed mp3s and aac of today. I listened to a friend's Nakamichi tape deck not long ago, brings back all the euphoria of the 80s.

I now think Steve Jobs is a fake, yes, of course I can tell the diference, and of course analogue is better, more natural more enjoyable.

Having said this Sony's latest hybrid digital dac amp Tazh1es and headphone mdr z1r is pretty ear syrup. Glad they're heading into the premium segment again.

Priced at a hefty 33,000 yen --$300 in today's money

But at the time, the exchange rate was about 220 yen to the dollar, so about 150 dollars.
