@Scrote

Did you even read the article ? What skilled engineers are you talking about ?

This is what the article says

"Many of the Japanese engineers finding a second life in China do not have the cutting-edge technology "

sunhawk:

i really wish those engineers would find someplace other then china to work though.

Where they work is not your problem. This article is not about you. I wonder whether you actually know any Chinese or whether you've been to China or is your experience with the culture limited to buying a toy 'made in China' that broke.

What I find most shocking is that people are made to retire at 60 and they can't receive a pension until they're 65. Which out-of-touch idiot thought of that - Koizumi? Another politician out of touch with the common folk, but supported by more idiots. How are people suppose to survive for 5 years with no income? I don't see any money trees. Is it any wonder these folks are moving onto greener pastures while home is rotting away. At least these guys feel needed.

I don't think its a big deal. The guys can go to China. Meet some good girls. Pass down some knowledge to hungry young minds. It's not all about nationalism or Japan "letting anyone down" to me. Japan gave these engineers their lives. Their professions and skills. Aren't all the Japantoday readers doing the same thing? Of all people, expats should be applauding people doing new and interesting things with their lives

i would've been happier if the engineers found work in australia, new zealand, the american continents

These engineers should be praised for helping to bring China up to 21st century standards more quickly.

You know and I know that these engineers don't give a flip about China. They wanted work, couldn't find it in Japan, went where they could find it. That's all.

we can just be glad that the chinese auto industry is still as horrible as it is. Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc are the only thing keeping this country sinking as slowly as it is

But Sunhawk, people might say the Chinese auto industry is horrible. But it seems that no one remembers they (i.e. the cars China produces now) were what Japan used to produce in the 1960s and 1970s. They were just small and cheap, with the bonus of being more fuel efficient. Japanese products at that time were nothing special. 1960`s Japan was pretty much the China of today, cheap, plastic toys and the souvenirs we bought when we went on holiday.

These engineers should be praised for helping to bring China up to 21st century standards more quickly.

This is simply Japan reaping more of what its sown over the decades, its treats its people somewhat like slaves & then when they retire...................THEY CANT GET THEIR PENSION FOR ANOTHER 3-5YRS!

The young Japanese had better be paying attention because if it sucks(& it does) for those retiring NOW, that means the rest are fracked!

At least these guys have some guts & are out there kicking some A$$, good on them, their own country has clearly let them down, & from here on in more are going to be feeling the ""love"" from Japan inc & its not nice!

No shortage of those here either: just take a look out of the window.

That's luxury here compared to the dark China industrial cities. These guys have guts to live there.

The Japanese industry has no one but to blame themselves, and the crazy nationalists can go screw themselves... I'm sure the engineers were just relieved that they no longer feel overworked and stifled by the Japanese corporations. If you want to lure back your employers then treat them well... although I don't see that actually happening for a while.

They live in what would be seen in Japan as rundown apartments

No shortage of those here either: just take a look out of the window. All those shacks are inhabited by somebody.

When Japanese companies bully their employees, cut their salaries and still expect them to put in 15 hour days it's no surprise that skilled people move overseas. There won't be much left in this country for the next generation.

The last sentence says it all...
