Lipstick company conducts survey on first kisses

Every culture in the world has different standards and social norms surrounding blossoming romance. But first kiss stories are a worldwide constant… or are they?

A Japanese cosmetic company, T-Garden, recently came out with a line of new lip gloss called ChuChuMagic, taken from the Japanese sound effect of kissing (“Chu!”). To further their new ad campaign, the online makeup store, Luvlit, started a ChuChuMagic survey on the online market research site, “Girl’s Monitor,” that asked Japanese men and women about their various kissing experiences. After questioning 1,000 users who registered for the survey, Luvlit reported their findings.

Q: How old were you when you had your first kiss?

Always the first to mature, the average age of the women who answered the questionnaire was 14.46 years old when they received their first kiss. For boys, it was 16.06, a whole 1.6 years later than girls. So does this mean Japanese girls like older men?

Q: Do you like kissing?

More than half (51%) of the survey participants answered yes, they do. Channeling their traditional Japanese ambiguity, 25% answered that if they had to choose, they supposed they like kissing. Exactly 20% said that they didn’t feel one way or the other about it. Only 4% said that they actually didn’t like kissing much at all.

Q: Are you satisfied with the kisses you get from your partner?

This loaded question was answered with a depressing less than 50% of participants answering in the positive. You have to hope that their partners were not near them while taking this survey, as this answer could quash many an ego. A total of 31% were moderately satisfied with their lover’s kisses and 20% said… well, let’s just say that there are some frustrated couples out roaming the streets of Tokyo right now.

Q: How often do you get kissed?

Reading these numbers, I personally wonder how they compare to other countries. The frequency with the most responses in Japan was 41% get kissed “a couple times a week.” Only 20% get a daily kiss and 21% only get kissed a few times a month.. Saddest of all, the answer “a couple times a year” earned a whopping 18%.

There’s no word from consumers as to whether this ChuChuMagic lip gloss actually increases the frequency or enjoyment of kisses, but it may be worth a shot.

I didn't budge on it though. If I died during the day (heaven forbid!), I'd like my kids to know that I love them and don't give a damn who knows it.

Well, if they're scared of kisses, then hugs are just as effective and won't make your kids look too "uncool" in front of their peers. My mom was more of a a hugger than a kisser so I never ended up saying, "MOOOM don't hug me in front of my friends!!!" Thanks to that I'm a great hugger of family, friends, and my lovers always felt comforted (instead of molested) when I gave them hugs according to the occasion.

FightingVikingAug. 13, 2013 - 11:08AM JST I usually agree with you but (unless times have seriously changed since my son was in a "Hoikuen") we always received curious looks whenever I went to pick him up and kiss him. Later on, when I went to watch his Kendo practice, he whispered to me "Please don't kiss me"...

Nope, times haven't changed. I always kiss my kids goodbye when I drop them at hoikuen and it took the staff a while to get used to it. At first they looked completely shocked!!

Kissing, apart from parent to child,

I knew from that young age that girls were gonna be nothin' but trouble!

Didn't put you off, though! ;)

on that other thread about sexual activity of the j peeps vs the outsider peeps, and most outsider peeps countries basically gettin more and givin more, a lot of doubters said that the j peeps were actually satisfied and just giving different answers.

I wonder what they think of this article.

especially question 2, and the last question, seem to say something. I mean, how can you not like a kiss? unless you don't like the person kissing? and if you have someone to kiss, how can you do it so rarely?

add couple times/ mo and couple times / yr, and you get 40%!!!

I hope this lip gloss product does its job in, uh, lubricating the masses.

First kisses? My first romantic kiss was when I was under 6years old from a girl that liked me who was 7. While I still thought she had cooties I had to admit she smelled okay... for a g-g-girl xD, but when her mom came back (she was supposed to be baby sitting) and saw lip gloss residue on my mouth she picked up one of those rubber sandals and screamed at me for being a little player even though it was her daughter that kissed me not the other way around! I knew from that young age that girls were gonna be nothin' but trouble!

Its a bit of a shame that there are no family kisses though. My mom always smooched my cheek. Family PDA shouldn't be frowned upon especially when you can get a good comforting hug from a relative. You got your romantic kiss/hug for your lover and your familial kiss/hug from relatives.

Japanese don't kiss, don't know how too, they smell the cheek!

Rubbish... I've had perfectly normal kisses from those Japanese women I have had relationships with. True, never outside, but indoors loving pecks to full-throttle tonsil ticklers depending on the situation.

Tessa, (I've inferred you are a teacher from your post) whilst your story sounds charming to me, I could see how such actions in Japan could be viewed as immature for a teacher or police or doctor....all being viewed as positions of authority and responsibility here. The provactive angle was a surprise.

Kissing, apart from parent to child, seems to have very strong sexual connotations here.

One day an elderly lady student, who had lived in the States for several years, started blowing kisses to me through the office window. I had a great deal of fun "catching" the invisible kisses and plastering them on my cheeks! We both got in trouble for for behaving in a provocative manner. What a bunch of uptight ***holes.

But can you imagine what a funny sight it was! Sure made my day.
