Miss Hooters Japan 2013 - vote now

By Rona Moon

Surely the main attraction of world-famous restaurant Hooters is the waitresses and their gigantic…appreciation for quality customer service. Now you can help select the cream of the Japanese Hooters crop in the Miss Hooters Japan 2013 by voting for your favorite “pair” online. The first round of voting ends Feb 14, and the lucky finalists will be announced on the website on Feb 16.

The 55 ladies in competition are actually Hooters Girls who work in one of the two Hooters Japan restaurants in Tokyo.

You can check out the '50s-style pinup poses and profiles on the Hooters Japan website. The page is mainly in Japanese, but the all-important ‘vote’ button is in English, so you can easily help your preferred chesticles to victory. In theory, you only get one vote, as they take note of your IP address. Fifteen ladies will advance to the final selection on March 3.

You can also vote at the actual Hooters restaurants in Tokyo or Ginza by ordering your first drink from the selected Asahi range, so in theory, you can get one voting card per visit. They’ll probably notice if you order your first drink, leave the restaurant and return for another “first drink”.

Each profile has a torso shot and a full body shot of the girl, with her name, height, hobbies and ‘future ambition’. The most popular future ambitions are “career woman”, actress, wife and mother, but No. 32 wants to become “the most dazzling granny ever” and No. 20 dreams of “making all the dogs in the world happy”. Woof.

The finals on March 3 will be held at Hooters Ginza. General admission tickets to the finals (which include the right to vote), are 5,000 yen, and VIP tickets (limited to 10) are 10,000 yen. The champion will go on to share their bodacious tatas with the world as Japan’s representative in the Miss Hooters World Championship in the U.S.

They told me Japan is a mountainous country. I'm not so sure.

Now this is a difficult decision. Guess everyone will have to devote some time and research to make the right choices.

This place serves the kind of lower end foods that my kids like. I would of course never take them to an environment like that with scantily clad girls probably being drooled over by sexists. Wish this crap stayed in America, their low class joints have done enough damage to Japan already.

Pretty sexy stuff for Japan Today. I met the owner of Hooters once... some country music stars like Travis Tritt married these girls. IT is not like they are Playboy bunnies... more like sexy little cheerleaders. With Hooters... hahaah.. kind of funny that they are now in Asia. These girls are now getting plastic surgery .. lot of problems with implants so girls will find out. I like Japanese girls as they are actually.. I dont mind the skimpy outfits.. its a sports bar and they all have great attitudes as well and if they have big boobs it makes the burger taste better.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

These young women are gorgeous and healthy compared to the plethora of stick figures at our local izakayas. Please open your next location in Morioka !!!

5 ( +9 / -4 )

beats AKB48 any day

22 ( +25 / -3 )

Love hooters! Go for the breasts stay for the wings!!!

11 ( +12 / -1 )

The three seconds I allowed myself to enlarge the picture in my office for fear of eliciting many 最低~s from my conservative female colleagues was enough to determine ten yes votes. Madoka gets two thumbs up. Too easy.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@falseflagsteve

My wife used to have issues with me going to Hooters until I finally got her to go with me and a group of friends. She was surprised by the general sports bar atmosphere and the girls were very friendly to both the male and female customers. She too thought that it would be seedy, but that's not the case, so don't knock it till you've tried it. I recommend the 911 wings, naked of course!

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Aya, Ayaka & Ayaka.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Tizalleyman: Most of the usual critics are those that have never been to Hooters. A little innocent titillation (pun intended) but nothing sleazy at all. Couples with kids would never feel uncomfortable. Long live Hooters in Japan.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I see Japan's campaign for women's lib is going well.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

I very often go there, and I guess no one's wife should have a problem with it. The girls (in Japan) are very nice and careful, towards every single customer

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Madoka, hands down. She has the best overall combination, in my opinion. Anyway, never been to Hooters myself, but I've heard all of what most are saying above -- that the staff are kind to both male and female customers, and it's not that seedy a place -- is true.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Living in Japan I am often convinced that women here have three choices in life.

Kawaii - be a cute little child like bunny as long as you can because that is pretty much all society wants from you.

Sexy (using the word loosely here) - Hostess, campaign girl, event hostess, hot OL, bar girl, Hooters girl, Kabakura girl, sex industry girl, trophy wife or girlfriend.

Control Lady - Embittered middle age OL, tyrannical wife controlling a weak salaryman, Mama-san over category 1 or 2. At least until you qualify to be Oba-san when you can finally relax and smile a bit.

Where is Japan's interest in what I wish we could see from women?

Creative and Smart - Is there anything really better than this? Smart, creative, dynamic and switched on women with a dream to pursue and the motivation to get there.

Career Woman - Equality in pay and opportunity, power wielding women driving her company or her role in an organization with intelligence, insight and the better judgement qualities of a bright and creative woman.

Family Gal - The mom who is so much more than housewife. She is the rock of the neighborhood, interested in politics and the future of her community, does volunteer work, helps on civic issues and manages to raise and keep a happy family.

These are just three examples of millions that I would like to see JT post on instead of the endless trickle of short skirt, busty, deer in the headlights girls that Japan seems so obsessed with. I have met these girls. Yes they are eye candy, some actually manage sexy, but conversations are usually vapid enough to toss yourself out the restaurant window just to escape. Maybe it is just me, but sexy needs some substance to really be sexy. Otherwise the whole living doll thing is just sad.

3 ( +16 / -13 )

but conversations are usually vapid enough to toss yourself out the restaurant window

I tried that once and got asked to leave.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Ayaka. Aye ya yai ya yai.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

@Ian

Ha! : )

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Ian, at least you got away. The first year I spent 2hrs stuck with one of the most attractive ladies I have ever met. But the conversation had me considering whether it was possible to use a paper napkin to hang myself from the chair or not. That two hours was an eternity.

I just wish JT, Japan and the public here would shift focus from vapid sexy types to women who are actually interesting to read about. I would love to see photos of someone interesting and not the endless spew of kawaii, talento or some other bunny girls. Is there a social disease for excessive cuteness? There should be.

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

Back on topic please.

@Mocheake: She get's my vote too!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

and they say hooters is a family restaurant

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I've yet to check out any of the Hooters in Tokyo yet but I went to a few in the States and Canada when travelling there and recall that they were awesome, but I swear every one of these photos is pretty unflattering..

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I very often go there, and I guess no one's wife should have a problem with it. The girls (in Japan) are very nice and careful, towards every single customer

That's just customer service and expected everywhere in Japan, including places of the night.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

@tkoind2

You're living in Japan now so your comments are obviously directed at Japanese women, but why, if you think about it, stop there? Under your ethnocentric vision of womanhood, why not feel "sad" and try to change the thousands of other countries/cultures with equally "vapid" women, the rest of Asia, the Near East, Europe, South America, Africa, you name it, any country in the world where women don't match your idea of what constitutes a "real woman?" How about stop hoping to change the world into one horribly bland, homogenous version of womanhood, and perhaps spend a little more time trying to go deep rather than wide. There is depth and meaning in what may seem shallow (yes, including Hooters' gals!).

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

hurry up and come to fukuoka

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Readers, please stay on topic.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If you go out to the website there's a lot more girls in the vote. Including a few western girls. Though I can't imagine why a girl would work at Hooters in Japan. At least in the USA the girls can extract some pretty impressive tips.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Madoka yep she seems to have best overall package just wonder if she not too short? also have to wonder how much is actually real and not just padding?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@matthew totally agree, Hooters girls over AKB48 anyday, at least they look like sexy young WOMEN not some adolescent GIRLS. but then again J salary men prefer the latter.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

tkoind: Quick question: where does Hooters come from? It certainly did not start out as a Japanese chain, and the point is that it's not just Japan that sells papers or headlines through sex -- everyone, everywhere does it. This kind of 'feature' attracts a much larger number of people and much broader swath of society, be they for or against what's being shown.

What's more, I know a young woman who works at Hooters (in NA, not Japan), and she loves the job, save for the odd pervert who goes there with the wrong ideas. It's helped her get through college and she has stayed on after in a part-time capacity for the people, and of course the cash. She doesn't feel she's being used, and if anything she thinks cusomers and people who feel as such are suckers.

Anyway, I'm all for what you say about promoting intelligence and character over sex in society any and every day, but it won't sell on magazine covers under the human race changes on a biological level. They can certainly do MORE than they are doing now, but they'll never change the fact that sex sells, for both women and men. Instead of trying to put a stop to such 'vapid' displays or practices, I say fight to lift the glass ceiling in politics and other fields. Get the women running Hooters if they don't already, and give them more of a say in the politics that allows such things to be shown.

Though tipping isn't a practice in Japan, don't they have some sort of service charge added to the bill to compensate for this? Also, maybe they have a system for the girls where whoever pushes the most drinks/food they get some commission of some sort. Compared to working for the typical izakaya or omise overall I think they get paid more.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Ayaka, Maika, Madoka, Megumi, Natsumi.. oh my.. they are all so sweet, I judge the smile and attitude .. Sakura, Yan, Sarah... should be put in a group.. taught how to dance and sing, could make them more cool and than AKB47... they can actually do something functional like carry platters of food and beer ... more fun than Victoria Secret Angels who are like high strung dogs .. You girls.. if you get tired of Japan.. transfer to Hawaii.. there is a Hooters here and you would be rock stars, surf in the winter, ride in a canoe under the rainbow.. could make a calandar... oh.. need 4 more

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Smith and all. Who cares where Hooters is or where it comes from. The exploitation is the same in any country.

As for my points on Japan. It is just that the extent of objectification of women here is extreme and it includes everything from tiny school girls to older women. And it is one of the only things that we ever hear about women in media here. Kawaii, sexy etc.... Where are the articles on women doing something meaningful with their lives?

I live in Japan, so of course Japan is my focus. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that these issues apply elsewhere. I would have thought that to be pretty obvious.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Someone forgot the hells doors open!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

One other note. I know this stuff is popular. Hell is porn is popular. But does that mean we need to endorse it in every aspect of society? I mean just because the herd runs off a social cliff, does that make it a good idea.

There are so many things that are popular that shouldn't be. But then do we really want to open up the conversation about the merits of mass popularity? Because there are a lot of bone headed things that public love. And a lot of behavior that is clearly popular but not good for humanity.

The one redeeming factor is that history shows that some of the worst popular things to caste women in (witch burning, slavery etc...) do eventually get weeded out despite their social popularity. I hope all this Hooters nonsense eventually does too.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Please calm down. Witch burning and slavery are irrelevant to this discussion. Hooters is just a fun restaurant where customers and staff alike enjoy themselves.

Wait, what? The full roster of contestants. These beautiful young ladies. Call me crazy, but some don't actually appear to be Japanese. Hm. I guess that don't nevermind none...

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

falseflagsteve: Wish this crap stayed in America, their low class joints have done enough damage to Japan already.

Yeah, like Japan really has the market cornered on classy entertainment. Do no-pan shabu-shabu, no-pan kissa, maid cafes, hostess bars and customer-participation sex joints ring any bells?

4 ( +6 / -1 )

they actually sell chicken wings at Hooters Ginza?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Hikaru. Leah. Ayaka. for what my non-vote is worth. Hooters itself is a pretty lame restaurant.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Lovely!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Until they hire hunky male waiters, the place isn't worth a hoot.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

I was just there last weekend and was given a ballot card.

It was hard to choose because a lot of the pictures looked the same. So I left it on the table.

I think about half of the girls working there were Japanese Americans or they grew up in the U.S. To fulfill their lifelong dream of being a Hooters girl in Ginza.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

i'm so disppointed...come on jp, i knows u got better talent than that

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Until a few years ago there was even a Hooters airline.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I vote for all of 'em!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

People please, you have got to be kidding me right? This girls are pretty lame looking, come on I see a lot very beautiful Japanese women every day, these girls are'nt even good looking enough to be called cute, maybe easy, but not cute, or sexy, not desireable. What you see in those pics is definetly scraping not the bottom, but the underside of the barrel.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Lets see...its hooters....was suggested I vote...but I pretty much only saw faces in the pic...what's going on?

If you ask me, a woman is most beautiful when she is leaving your table rather than coming to it. So voting on the basis of these mug shots seems rather pointless to me.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

Ayaka I. wins my vote. Wow!

I cannot believe this story has people arguing. Lighten up folks!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Surprised no one is mentioning Miyuki O. She'd have my vote.

Only saw the face shots-- nowhere could you click for the full figure shots.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

For all the complainers about their looks: This is a contest to find the best girl who actually works in a Hooters in Japan. Yes there are going to be better-looking girls in Japan, but they aren't working at one of the two Hooters in Japan and so are not on the ballot. I really hate it when I have to state the glaringly obvious.

Hooters is a family restaurant because the servers are wearing more than you'll find on any beach. Also, the servers are not going home with you just because you're a customer. I know of a few in NA who dated customers and one who ultimately married the guy she met in the local Hooters, but those are rare cases. 3 dating and/or marriage instances over 15 years = "rare". The girls will be nice to you and they'll flirt with you but unless you're the type they like, they aren't going out with you.

Until they hire hunky male waiters, the place isn't worth a hoot.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Until they hire hunky male waiters, the place isn't worth a hoot.

Not happening. About a decade ago, some guy tried applying for a server position, was denied, then tried suing Hooters Corp. for gender discrimination. He lost his suit because the court ruled that the Hooter Girl is a fundamental core of the Hooters business in the same way a Playboy Bunny was the core of that business.

On the plus side, it leaves a whole market wide-open for exploitation. You could start a chain of restaurants called "Sausages" and Hooters Corp. couldn't say a thing.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I go out to eat for the food and conversation, not the view. Guess that's just me.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

gelendestrasse. Me too.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

NAN DESU KA: "What you see in those pics is definetly scraping not the bottom, but the underside of the barrel"

Gosh, I'd hate to hear what you'd say about... never mind.

@akkk1

Business idea for you; Open a place with your preferred hunky males and call it "Weiners".
