whether we should live in a society where people's genetic information is evaluated and traded for money.

In a system - capitalism - in which everything is increasingly commodified, it is inevitable.

Great! Seems these sperm banks give them that option. That sounds like a good service.

So you personally know all 500 of these women?

Or did you just stop reading where you wanted?

User surveys conducted in 2021 and 2022 showed that 35 percent of the 246 respondents were married, while 13 percent were in same-sex relationships and 52 percent were single.

So nearly 50% are married or in committed relationships those married to men need it because they are either sterile or low mobility in which case mixing sperm is often used to increase chance of pregnancy.

Taiwan is fast becoming a place to go do Japanese couples.

But both partners must be present and proof of marriage, if sperm only it is far less complicated to go to Europe where fewer paperwork is needed.

Taiwan is popular for egg donation because one can match the "looks " of the mother to the donor leading to more chances of the child looking like the parents.

But your jumping to conclusions without reading and judging people with the full facts is a major reason why Japan lagges behind so much of the rest of the world on this subject.

I wish I had done this! Women should have the choice not to involve men in their reproductive choices.

Agreed. And men should have the choice to not have to support financially the woman and child if he does not want to involve them in his familial choice.

I wish I had done this! Women should have the choice not to involve men in their reproductive choices.

I believe in people having the choice, but as man that had to raise 2 children ony own with no physical or financial help from their mother, I think many people that think about raising a child on their own don't actually know how hard it is.

I know far to many women that use the thinking "well if we need the government will help support us" ( now that same support is available for men in Japan but a lot of hurdles are put in place for men).

Sorry but it isn't the responsibility of the state or our neighbours to pay for our children especially if that person took the risk of deliberately becoming a single parent.

The stats and facts are very clear, children from single parent homes are at a clear disadvantages vs those with both parents.

Again I say it is the individual's choice but one needs to think about the effects on the children.

My children turned out fine but would it have been and easier life had their mother been involved, hadvi been able to take better jobs to better support them financially instead of jobs that let me return home in time to take care of them which paid far less?

While my non single parent family members and friends saved money paid for the best schools and paid university for their children.

I took loans to try and do the same.

I was offered high paying jobs but a 5 and 6 year old at home at the time how was I supposed to care for them if I was at work until 19:00, 20:00, 21:00 Even 22:00 at night.

It seems like many people think " yeah I can do that" but until you are up to your neck with 2 children sick at home and no one to stay with them and told if you don't come in to work you are not paid or fired, suddenly it is not as easy as you thought.

Since when has anyone listened to stats and facts!!! Lol.

But despite that, a very down to earth post. Thanks for bringing truth to the discussion.

The important point for all children is to be wanted, loved, and nurtured.

What's wrong with Person to Person transactions? Literally, there are people out there doing this right now....without getting paid.

How would you feel if you were in the middle of a person-to-person transaction and Hiromi Ito here bustsinto the room? "I'm sorry folks, but this is my line of work". I've lobbied Japan's government to have access to any and all transactions of this nature.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to stop. Register with my organization, pay some fees, sign this paperwork here, and we'll take over the process from here.

Glad I won't be around to see the nightmare that Gen Z is creating. Demolition Man for real.

Other than it not working for some people?

You can say that. However, you'll have to plan for yours and your kid's future, especially psychologically. I'm sure that kid will wonder of his or her other parent, especially if the father does not look anything like him or her. Just saying.

I made no attack on you but you sure took it that way, your man hate is very visible!

Would you like to take a guess how a broke Gaijin man gets custody of 2 very young Japanese children in Japan over the Japanese mother?

Well it sure isn't because the mother was 100% mentally stable.

You seem to really think that it is just men that are a problem.

Anyway unlike you, despite the very bad situation including server physical abuse, I don't have the same hatred towards women you seem to have towards men.

If sperm donation is going to give women little boys to raise so the women can teach the boys to hate themselves as I have actually seen many do, then maybe some shouldn't be using it.

I feel sorry for such children as they will never have a father and will be raised by a strange mother...

Just because the sperm originated from someone else, doesn't mean the parents who bring these kids to live, raise and teach them what's good and bad aren't their real moms and dads.

Making a baby's easy. Unless being infertile, anyone can do it. On the other hand, raising a kid is what makes a real mom or dad.

I have one more thing.

The cost of infertility treatment is already nearly all private.

Yes a certain number of "tries" are repaid by the government but not in full because these private clinics hit you with incredible amounts and force you to undergo test not paid by the government or insurance.

It is an incredible rip-off these clinics make so much money the government should just let them print their own.

My present wife and I spent millions and I mean millions with and S in these clinics and the amount reimbursed by the government was a tiny portion.

The government limits the IVF to just a few times despite it often requiring far more than they will pay.

So any private venture in Japan will charge far more than necessary.

Hiromi Ito, who heads Cryos International's Japan operations, has expressed her willingness to begin recruiting donors in Japan, saying that "women who want children will not give up and will turn to person-to-person transactions, which involve risks such as infectious diseases."

According to Wiki, some Danish donors have up to 200 kids worldwide due to commercial use of their sperm. That is a far bigger problem that the risk of infectious diseases.

Huh? The person was talking about having IVF with no man part of her life at all. So there isn't another person to look like.

This is a self-defeating attitude. And happens somtetimes with people born of sex too.

Not really Just expressing genuine concern. There have been hundreds of cases of children born from the same sperm donor. Discovered when people have taken DNA tests.

One IVF doctor in America was illegally selling and using his own sperm resulting in hundreds of children.

I don't have any problems with sperm donations or IVF.

And there have been hundreds of cases where people who were born of their natural parents found out they were related after the fact.

So you define the whole system by one bad actor?

One Sperm Donor, 150 Offspring - The New York Times

At least one sperm donor in the Netherlands, known as Louis, is thought to have more than 200 offspring, many of whom are unaware of one another ...

A man who says he's the “world's most prolific sperm donor” has claimed he has fathered 129 children — but now medical experts have warned against his actions. Clive Jones, 66, has been donating his sperm from his van for nearly 10 years — and has nine more children on the way.
