This truly is the future, though so few recognize it now; I only know as some of my graduate students are involved in related research. Two major approaches are involved: breaking down the lignin to access the glucose; and bioengineering microbes to process it. Today's namagomi is tomorrow's fuel - though certainly not in battery form.
