More GMO and CRISPR-Cas9 would be great! C4 rice or transgenic N fixing wheat are very possible.

Perfectly agreed.

Lotta ifs in there.

I dunno about this. Soil management and better farm yields don't give me near the virtue signalling status that veganism does.

No it isn’t.
No such creature.
I’ve been vegetarian for over two decades, and I’m way healthier than the vast majority of meat-eaters I know. Plenty of energy, no aches and pains, no problems re blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, cardiac health, constipation, etc etc.

Mankind has evolved to the point that we need animal meat for nourishment. That's a fact. It's been a part of most cultures thruout our written history. But it also comes with a responsibility - don't exterminate the animals, or the plants. Take only what you need. The Creator/God/Great Spirit/Shang-Tri/Allah/Jah/etc. made it for our use. Veganism/vegetarianism is no answer and it's unhealthy. And also the astronauts on the ISS are eating meat, in a pasty substance because they know this to be a fact too.
And the same goes for energy for our modern technological world. Too many lives wasted, too many wars for petroleum - we can do better.
