If anyone doubts what a big brother society China is this whole fiasco should be an object lesson. this is just underwear, for Chrissakes. Yet the lure of big bucks (Chinese market for this type of fancy underwear predicted to be north of 10 billion US by 2020) means companies just cave in on restrictions, state involvement and snooping on their marketing and internet platforms and the kind of bizarre xenophobia that forms a core part of "the thoughts of Chairman Xi".

I don't get the squinting thing as an insult. Why would anyone want to insult the very concept of being Asian? Makes no sense. The sunflower thing is a bit strange. Perhaps she knew it was an insult to the Chinese dictatorship, and perhaps she didn't. I certainly didn't. Sunflowers in general are beautiful, and that is how I prefer to think of them, not as a symbol standing against dictatorship.
