Imagine a Tiananmen Square remembrance in Hong Kong where all the men wore Xi Jinping masks and all the women wore Carrie Lam masks!

Would be great fun to get several hundred people all wearing the exact same mask to gather on a street in some big Chinese city. Especially if everyone was wearing a mask of Chairman Xi ! The facial monitoring tech they use would crash so hard you would hear it all the way to Honolulu! The computers would melt and ooze out the doors of the building and the operators would run out with their hair on fire. Good gawd the fun you could have messing with facial recognition / surveillance software. I absolutely detest government surveillance so this appeals to me greatly.

Arya Stark comin' to get ya!

Realistic in front. Not from sides surely.

Very creepy. And ¥40,000 doesn’t seem like much payment for unlimited use of a persons face.

The movie industry for one, would be very interested in these, as it would allow them more flexibility in using stunt performers. No need to CG the actor’s face to a stunt performer body, or use of awkward face obscuring angles for stunts.

Feel sorry for the model. Someone will definitely use this to rob a conbini and the model will be wrongfully identified lol. He must have really needed the 40,000 yen!

Idiotic but great for would be criminals

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Why? Only weirdos would want one of these.

The idea itself is not new ... and its illegal in parts of USA https://metamorphosemasks.com/

Next is getting a mask of one’s own face and wearing it

Don’t laugh - there are always suckers

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Pretty sure this won't end well.

Every day we get closer to a dystopic future

the mask looks like a flipped version of his face. If you take a photo and use it without retaking it again, since none of us are truly symmetrical it creates an odd feeling.

By the way, will it trick the iPhone facial recognition if flipped once?

The article contradicts itself.

It says Okawara based the mask on his own face, and it also says that he chose the model from 100 applicants and paid him 40,000 yen.

The mask certainly looks like it's based on Okawara's face.

So what did the model get paid for?

If I had 98,000 in loose change rattling around in my purse, I'm pretty sure I would not choose to spend it on a mask, of anybody's face.

Couldn't they have chosen a less creepy face?

I hate this bank job. I feel I can't be myself.

"Hand over the money, and no-one gets hurt!"

Why?

A must have when visiting China, my mask can loose social points. As I ram raid a Jewlery store, not that I would my mask did!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Surely this is not legal! It opens up so many doors for criminals or identity theft. Do we really need that?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Finally! I won't have to wear those hot ski masks when I go to the bank to make a very large withdrawal.

Amazing but, yes, a dream come true for criminals. Great for making fake ID photos, impersonating people in online meetings (that may actually be handy sometimes!), and so on.

Oh just think, you can slip it on and then do a crime

exactly. or someone who hates you can use your face and frame you

Great, someone buy a Trump mask, wrap a pillow around your waste to look obese, wear a suit, red tie, and then go around saying “Yes, Biden did win. I lost. I am a loser and a con artist, it is who I truly am! I have suckers to please and to fleece.”

Good grief
