What would be your ideal summer fling?

Magazine website Ozmall (http://www.ozmall.co.jp/ol/honne/vol90/) recently surveyed office ladies (OLs) on what sort of a fling they fantasize about.

Here are some of the top answers from the women who responded.

-- With a Latin guy while I’m traveling abroad! I think he would give me an incredibly passionate trip!

-- He invites me to go for a drive one day, and I find out he’s booked a room at a seaside hotel. That would be the best!

-- Like in "Roman Holiday," but the opposite—I’d go on a fantastic date with a celebrity that I’d never get to meet otherwise.

-- We’re at a fireworks festival when he bumps into me and my yukata gets dirty. He’s so nice, and our love progresses very sweetly; but when the summer ends he’s killed in a motor-bike accident.

-- A younger local guy pursues me passionately while I’m studying abroad for the summer.

-- A celebrity. It has to be someone I would definitely never see again, otherwise things would just drag on.

-- Love at first sight at the library or a bookstore.

-- We’ve each got a significant other, but we get caught up in a fiery love that makes us forget that for a moment. If it was at an exotic resort, I could feel totally separated from reality.

-- I’m on a trip, and he saves me from almost drowning in the ocean. So I fall in love with him.

All of the other ones are understandable... but killed in a motor-bike accident?? That's just morbid.

Black widow mentality.

Three girls, plastic sheet and a bottle of Criso oil! What a summer that would make.

OK edit my last post. These three girl and a bottle of Criso oil!

A fling is adultery and is digusting to people with morals like myself.

This is not a topic to be discussed lighty. Strewth, if i had my way adultery would be punished with public corporal punishment.

Marriage is an outdated and useless institution. Denying our urges makes more problems then honest discussion of them.

I hear Tehran is nice this time of year...It would fit you nicely. If not there then maybe Somalia is your cup of tea.

Flings a fling

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Don't have an idea what mine would be. :P

Alf.

A Summer fling can be good for a marriage, many rocky marriages have been saved by having a separate holiday location with a "Don't ask, Don't tell" attitude.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

genji17, why would i go to places like that? I look back at the good old days when a man and woman kept themcselves pure until marriage and this "fling" and casual stuff was condemned by society, and too bleeding right.

No sex until marriage is what we must adhere to, lik we used to do when i was young.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So no test-driving a car, etc before you buy it either. :P

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry... and what was it in the Charisma Man article the Japanese ladies were saying? Something like: "Foreign men don't have any concept of what lies between friend and girlfriend"?

I'm willing to bet a number of them are married, too.

Love at first sight at the library or a bookstore.

This is very romantic. I wish to experience this. I wish somebody put a message in the book I chose. Like a special poetry and lovely sweet message. I think this is sublime.

I’m on a trip, and he saves me from almost drowning in the ocean. So I fall in love with him.

This is also a very romantic dream...it has never happened to me unfortunately. I wonder if I drown anybody would rush to save me. how sad.

Steer clear of black widows at fireworks festivals. I can't believe a woman admitted a fantasy involving an affair with a guy who would then be killed.

I mean seriously...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Really sweet romance there...just ending in death. Nice and clean way to get rid of them. ?!?! Who are these women? Men in Japan need to start making a newsletter or something with photos of these dirt bags.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Alf, one day you might understand the meaning of progress, why it makes for happier people with better technology and an advanced way of life. And one day you might come to realize why Iran is Iran and why Somalia is Somalia and it has a lot to do with the desire to mete out corporal punishment to people not observing YOUR morality. People like you point the way back. The rest of us can go forward because flings are not something we let weigh us down.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

AlfGarnett - Strewth, if i had my way adultery would be punished with public corporal punishment.

You'd get along well in some middle-east and African countries. There they tie the lasses up and throw stones at their heads till they're dead.

My wife use to fantasize about a fling with Tiger Woods and with the recent revelations of his possibly hundreds of 'flings' she might have actually done it.

Norika and a cabin in the mountains....
0 ( +0 / -0 )

C'mon, guys, it only APPEARS that he is killed in the motor-bike accident. He is actually a spy and using the woman as cover. Later, after tying Kim Jongil over a chair and bullwhipping him with a ... uh ... bullwhip, he delivers him to the Democratic world, peace breaks out, and he gives her a sly wink as he steps up to his private jet.

Got it?

On second thought, die in a bike accident, famous person you won't see again, somewhere on vacation you won't see when you come home...

these ladies are cravin a thrillin drillin, not harsh killin...

I believe John Cougar Mellancamp put it best:

"one who will thrill me, and then go away..."

A good party with happy people. Happy conversations. And then you realize that you like one of the guys. Everything goes smoothly. I would drink my favorite drink, loads of it (I never get drunk, I don't know why). And enjoy myself with this guy. Don't want the night to end. But when it ends, I don't want to remember the last night and don't want to meet the guy gain.

Thing is, a scenario like that happens in so darned many dramas. Love affair, then one or the other meets a tragic fate.

They say there is somebody out there for everyone but I couldn't imagine there being a guy out who is thinking; My ideal summer fling, get greasy and dirty so I can dump into a girl at a fireworks festival and get her yukata dirty, after which I will be nothing but a gentleman and I will use my masculine wiles to progress our love in a sweet and timely manner and then at the end of summer I will drive my motorbike off a cliff ala Lando Griffin.

Ideally, it would be right outside the cage of a monkey who dropped golden feces.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah the fireworks festival scenario is of the chain. I can't believe it's a top answer. WTF? How many J women are into this death fantasy? Black widow is right gaijinfo. Our LOVE progress sweetly (but ends in a motor incident)??? All I can say is WOW!

Ideal summer fling - with the hot but of stuff I married - else, why would I?!! And I ain't wishin' for a motorbike accident.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Thinking surely something got lost in the translation, I followed the link above and read these little fantasies in the vernacular. But, eeks! She really does kill him in a motorcycle accident at the end of summer. 夏が終わるころ男の人は、バイクで事故して帰らぬ人となる(エリーさん)Poetically expressed, but still...

Most of the others are run of the mill, typically vague, situation-based female fantasies. But they read as just that--fantasies and no more. So it's a bit of a stretch to accuse them of adultery, unless idle thoughts are now accepted as both reality and a crime?

Final note: Kinda interesting how often foreigners pop up in these fantasies. Says something, but I can't quite put my finger on it...

Wow, he dies in a motorcycle accident, that's real romantic!..a bit morbid if you ask me but to each his/her own...

LoveUSA said the bookstore, library, scene is sweet and romantic I agree, I would like something like that to happen also...

But my ultimate summer fling fantasy, would be meeting someone at an art museum, having the person fly me in a private jet to a small secluded island and spend an un-forgetable night under the stars.

this thread is so romantic. It seems everybody craves something romantic this boring summer.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

All those sound straight out of drama and/or harlequin-style books. But that's no wonder considering the quality of the question in the first place...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ideal summer fling for me would be...

I can't remember the name of the artist, but I once heard a story that I would have loved to have experienced.

Decades after the artists death, it came to light that there had been a life long romance with a woman who had been his close friend, trusted confidant and later discovered that they had kept a passionate love affair.

She had been an inspiration for him, stood by him as a friend for many years. Their passion defined them and yet remained their shared secret.

We never know why their love did not become the sole romance in their lives. Perhaps obligation to a spouse, a division or class or culture, or some reason for never marrying. Perhaps they simply cherished this connection as it existed.

So my ideal summer fling? One day I discover a woman whose charm, intelligence and spark of life charm and capture my heart. We become trusted and caring friends with a romantic passion that grows over time into something worthy of such a story. The kind of true experience that could inspire someone decades later to dream of something similiar.

Does such a charming muse exist who shares a similar vision? Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps such stories are dreams of the past and not of a modern world.

Tkoind, what are you doing here? Go write your book instead of grumbling about the things Japan. What you say does exist. People have lost their faith in marriages. Nothing like the good friendships that are more genuine. Ok, whoever wants to say otherwise, beleive what you beleive in. TKoind, you write vey well. Please write some books including that magazine you promised.

hooking up with a couple of hotties at one them enoshima beach parties and then hitting one of the local love hotels... hell yeah!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I had a summer fling on a trip to Thailand in 2002. It was 6 months after dad died and I needed to get away by myself for a few weeks.

I met a Japanese guy in a cafe in Bangkok and we got talking in broken English. We had a holiday fling and he returned to Osaka and I returned to London. I never thought I would see him again.

18 months later we got married and now we have 3 kids. He is still my soulmate, my best friend and pretty damn hot too! So I would say to anyone "fling away"! And tkoind2 - it does exists in the modern world. It could be 5 years from now, or in 5 mins when you finish reading this and pop down to the combini - but it DOES happen.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Jkanda. thanks for the encouragement. I am working on something. JT lets me vent, debate and play devil's advocate. So I guess that is why I am here.

Marriages can indeed be romances. But too rarely so in a world with such fleeting expectations.

But romance can be found in profound friendships too. Rarely perhaps, but those that do are subjects for writers, and would be writers with too much imagination and too much unrealistic romanticism. ;)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The URL in the opening line doesn't give the article any credit.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Bumping into Amuro Namie at the laundromat (coin laundry),

You might want to hunt for her in a different location - just a suggestion!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

tkoind2... I met a Japanese man online " I was not married at the time" he lives in Osaka and in Tokyo,we were going to meet in person, but things went astray and nothing come of it, but I still have that what if, in the back of my mind, though I am married it still pops into my head every now and then, and I often write poetry about it... my way to vent, and let my feelings out even after so much time and he is fresh in my mind,at times I feel guilty because I am married and still think of him...But I believe that anything is possible and such flings can turn into something more, not always the case but it is possible.

For me adultery is tricky, I cannot say I condemn it or condone it...depends on the persons involved, and the reasons for it to happen, what I do not condone is living a double life, such as long term relationships with more than one person "unless the other person knows about it" but a fling can be good for a relationship at times, but to me frightening, to many diseases in the world, I don't think it's good to just go out and find someone and sleep with them unless you know them better, even then you never know what they might have. Fantasies are better than actual flings, and even better if the fantasy comes true. But many men and women just have fantasies and never really fulfill them, the mind is an incredible thing to have, especially if it is full of imagination...some ppl share their fantasies with their partners, while most cannot...often when ppl express their fantasies to their partner the person becomes jealous or upset, and becomes insecure. This has even brought alot of relationships to an end.So I was a bit surprised to read...

badmigraine

For my wife, it was a 25-year-old host club guy she met in a Roppongi bar while drinking with her "friends".

But I think it is good they could communicate this way, if ppl were more open minded then relationships would be alot better.

—"We’re at a fireworks festival when he bumps into me and my yukata gets dirty. He’s so nice, and our love progresses very sweetly; but when the summer ends he’s killed in a motor-bike accident." What is this, a disposal romance? Don't want to meet women like this.

Re: the frequency that foreigners pop-up in these fantasies.

We are nothing more than a fetish in Japan; they are obsessed with, yet terrified of us. Erotic disgust, if you will.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

My ideal summer fling:

We meet in some gaijin bar. She's not bad, I'm a little buzzed. We stumble to a love hotel. When we wake up in the morning, she thanks me profusely, as I was her first lover, and she never knew it could be so good. She then tells me she has no friends or family, and she has two weeks to live. We make great use of those two weeks. The she explains she is an heiress to a great Daimyo fortune, and asks if it's OK if she leaves it all to me. I say yes, and we head to her lawyer to square everything. We get busy one last time, and she passes just as she experiences the height of bliss.

I check my bank account, and find I'm 10 billion dollars richer.

Then to return the favor, I spend the rest of my life in places where J-girls go on vacation to fulfill their fantasies.

velvetrosetta.

If I put fantacy and romantic intrigue aside, I can't help but arrive at the conclusion that such epic romantic friendships are not only rare but could be fatal to any other relationships.

A long time ago I realized that modern humans are just not by nature meant to settle with only one lover for an entire lifetime. The romantic side of me still believes in and hopes for that kind of love. And I have seen people come very close to achieving it.

I am torn between two ideas I believe are possible and true. That two people can love each other and yet allow each other a modest degree of freedom that would enable romantic flings that could preserve the longer and more important core relationship. Some of my European friends seem to have done so though agreements that allow what happens on holiday to stay on holiday. Or tolerating romantic friendships.

On the other side my American, and thus much more conservative side sees this open relationship idea as a threat to the core romantic notion of fidelity.

Perhaps the truth rests somewhere in between. In our fantacies or in our capacity to find the right solution for us. Endurance, endulgence or escape.

In any case romance is intoxicating, even if just a thought.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think romance is possible only in a conservatice countries. Then people are forced to do really romantic things to express their feelings. Like in Iran. In Iran it is not possible for boys and girls to meet if not family. Libraries and net cafes are separated for boys an girls. But a boy and girl leave each other coded messages in the books they borrow. I think this is romantic. Romantic is abstract and not direct. I read this in a iranian book.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

tkoind2..some may disagree that "modern humans are just not by nature meant to settle with only one lover for an entire lifetime". But the way ppl have evolved and experimented, I believe that you have a point, not everyone is this way of course but now days how many ppl last 30, 50 yrs. together like they used to...it is rare.

Even in the U.S such things as swingers are more common than many ppl think, for me it is the way two ppl want to live and if it makes them happy then so be it, but it would be best to find someone like this than actually go out and have a fling, unless it is like you said.."agreements that allow what happens on holiday to stay on holiday. Or tolerating romantic friendships".But not everyone is so open minded.

What works for one person might not work for the other...But I think you said it well when stating "in our capacity to find the right solution for us".

I say love is something that is supposed to be beautiful, but it is also something that hurts so much...I have always wondered and I don't think it is a question that can be answered with a "correct answer", to me it is just a matter of opinion..." can one person love two ppl in a romantic way...some say no, but I think it is possible.

Pretentious, melodramatic, pedantic, pompous and ostentatious. I find aggravating that people like that would comment on flings, when most likely, they spend their entire live "flinging" themselves.

"The Beach" It was getting late, and she was still there. He was watching her, like he had watched her all that afternoon. She had read her book, snoozed on her back, rolled over onto her tummy and snoozed some more. The more he watched her, the more he became fascinated. Of course, he did not know who she was, or where she came from, or what she did in life. But he felt that he had known her. What was it about her?

It was getting rather late. Everyone had gone. She was the only person left on the beach besides himself. It looked like she was sleeping again, but she stirred now and then, perhaps she was having a bad dream. He decided to call it a day, and packed his meager belongings into a threadbare backpack, and began to stagger on home. But his curiosity was still shining brightly on the surface on his mind. He decided to walk past her, not too close, but close enough to see the shape of her face, the texture of her skin, the color of her eyes, and the smell of her hair...Oh, but he would have to get real close for that, he thought.

He took a step, and then another, and he approached her. When he had gotten close to her, he stopped. The air was still, the sun a distant memory, the sand faded into unknown shadows. And yet, she did not stir. He took a step closer. The light was fading ever so quickly, and yet he could still make out her shapely form lying peacefully in the sand.

Then all in a rush she jumps up and grabs him and pulls him down and whispers the words (CHOOSE YOUR OWN ENDING HERE) (1)"Make sweet love to me." (2)"Sakura Police".

To each his own mate. Would you prefer a quick sound bite with a little hip hop sound track? One problem with romance in our current society is that too many people like you have lost any appreciation for language. Instead you feed of twitter bits that lack any depth or expressive value.

maybe "Warm summer, romance good." would better appeal to your pedestrian sensibilities.

It's comforting to know a good many of these fantasies involve foreigners. As I was told by a wise man many moons ago when I came to these fair shores - "Gaijin Advantage - Guaranteed!"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They all sound like plots from a corny romance novel/movie. I think lots of women still have this weird idea that some passionate, exotic young guy is suddenly going to sweep her off her feet. I don't believe in love at first sight but certainly lust at first sight exists.

kirakira: Good story! I met my hot husband at a club and it started out as a summer fling but then turned into a relationship. You never know when love will find you...

Actually, my ideal summer fling would be going to the Further Festival with my old friends from college. A woman would just dick that up.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Taka313, yea sure though you have it backwards. An ideal time for me would be to go out with my friends to a Festival. A man would spoil everything, they can only think about one thing in their tiny infinitesimal small little minds.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yuri,

Then I guess you and I should never vacation then, huh? ;-)

It's not only a woman who would dick it up. I said that because most people talked in sexual terms. My four closest friends and I have our own language, our own humor and our own habits. Any outsider would ruin it. However, a relationship within that group would be like a cancer. That's who we are. When we get together, it's always sans significant other because they wouldn't enjoy themselves and we are who we are.

Your reaction, btw, is EXACTLY what I meant when I said a woman would dick it up. You really make my argument for me.

I think lots of women still have this weird idea that some passionate, exotic young guy is suddenly going to sweep her off her feet.

No, you are wrong. Most women would like to meet a normal man who treats them with kindness, generosity and benevolence and does not treat women with disrespect and revengefulness. But if he is vile, ungentlemanlike, he has 0% possibility for success with a woman. He should move in life and try to improve himself. Although he has no chance whatsoever with the woman he hurt, he can find happiness somewhere else.

Come on lighten up. Summer is here, and let's be honest, it is a time when most of us have a little more romance, lust and distraction going. Most of it purely harmless. Anyway I would trade a world full of love struck people than the real world of stressed out, over heated wage slaves that most of us are.

So let your imagination go. That cute girl or guy could be the start of something you will remember when you are 80 with a warm smile. And that person could be someone new, or a rediscovered passion between an existing couple. We could all do with a little more wide eyed joy in this life.

I'd say going to a JLPGA tournament and chatting up Ai Miyazato. Then being able to hang out with her and have some fun (eating, talking, drinking, etc...). Anything (if) that would happen after that would be gravy.

And for Yuri: If you idea of having some fun has absolutely zero sexual intonations, then you seriously have problems and see sex as a utility for creating children and nothing more. Hell, I know a lot of women who just love the idea of flirting, but that's where it ends (much to the chagrin of any man they are with).

My ideal Summer fling would be a chance encounter, with Rio Hamazaki or a similar woman, while enjoying an early evening seaside drink. We then make plans to go to a festival, meet up before hand only to skip the whole thing, find a quiet and isolated spot on a beach and explore each others intimate fantasies. We hit it off and plan to do it again if we see each other. We then keep in touch via email and text and wait until the next summer festival.

More than happy with my wife. I feel so sorry for all these singles. Flings are a complete waste of time and money whether you are single or not. Just keep fantasising, dreaming and deluding yourselves peoples. Lol.

Would like to have a summer fling that turned into a full relationship, possibly marriage.

Me: After a hard six month on my Uncle Owen’s moisture farm I decide to take a few weeks off. While relaxing down at cantina I bump into a much harassed princes and we take my pet dewback named Huey for nice ride in the desert.

Summer flings just happen if you are in the right place and wih the right crowd. Most importantly, you need to be relaxed for it to happen.
