Nana Natsume adds spice to 'Zombie Strippers'

When you see a movie with the title "Zombie Strippers," you should know exactly what you’re going to get – and it isn’t Shakespeare. With generous amounts of soft-core sex and head-exploding gore, "Zombies" stars American pornstress Jenna Jameson as a stripper, who along with her co-workers, gets infected by a government super virus that is supposed to regenerate dead soldiers, but instead turns people into flesh-eating zombies (and makes the girls better strippers).

Adding a bit of spice for the Japan release of the DVD on April 22, former porn star Nana Natsume provides the voice for Jameson’s character in the Japanese-language version. “When I first heard the title, I thought it might be rather frightening, but after seeing it, it was more like a comedy,” says Natsume, 29, who retired from the adult video industry in 2007. “Doing the voiceover was a challenge. I was thinking about what kind of voice I should use for the main character. Then I had to match the dialogue with Jenna’s mouth movements and practice vocalization. The whole process was quite fast; it only took about four hours to do.”

Born in Takatsuki, Osaka, Natsume did odd jobs such as waitressing after finishing high school. “I had many dreams,” she says. “I wanted to be in showbiz, or work in a cake shop, or do something in the jewelry business.” After being scouted, she started in magazines as a gravure idol and did some TV work before making her debut in the porn industry with adult video company Soft on Demand when she was 20. “My mother was very supportive and told me to go for it; my dad didn’t say anything,” she recalls.

Over the next five years, Natsume made numerous porn videos, often one a month, including one memorable role as a sexpot whose breasts fire bullets when she is sexually aroused. Throughout her AV career, Natsume picked up many awards within the industry, among them best AV actress at the annual Takeshi Kitano Awards in 2004. Although she is happy to talk about her AV activities, Natsume is now trying to move on with her mainstream career. ““It’s been a challenge to change my image from porn to mainstream,” she admits. “I’m still struggling with that. It’s going to take a lot more time and effort.”

Since retiring from the porn industry, Natsume has appeared in some action movies, including a joint Hong Kong-Japan production last year titled "Sasori," in which she plays a gang boss. “That was a good experience,” she says. “The way they make movies in Japan and Hong Kong is so different. On a Hong Kong set, there are no defined roles. Everyone pitches in and does whatever is necessary.”

Natsume has also provided the voice for Sega, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS video games. She keeps busy doing regional radio and television variety programs. Last year, her face adorned a giant billboard on a Shibuya building as part of a campaign to raise public awareness of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases). “I’m very interested in topical issues,” she says. “I follow politics and crime, especially the upcoming lay jury system. I wonder what that’s going to be like. I’d really like to be on a jury.”

Standing 163 cm tall, Natsume is dressed up for her promotional work for "Zombie Strippers," but says she prefers hanging out in T-shirt and jeans. Diesel is one of her favorite brands and Roppongi Hills is a favorite shopping spot for her. “My style has changed a bit over the years. When I was 18, I was into the Namie Amuro look -- you know, the shirts and miniskirt style.” In her free time, Natsume enjoys scuba diving in Okinawa and occasionally gambling on boat races.

Although some men may be intimidated about approaching a woman with Natsume’s background, she has a few tips for guys. “I like kindness in a man and someone who has that samurai ‘bushi’ quality,” she says.

"Zombie Strippers" is available from Sony Pictures Entertainment for 3,990 yen.

Is this movie only just coming out on DVD here? Once again, Japan at the cutting edge of home entertainment releases!

It is one of those movies that is so bad it is actually painful to watch in parts. Ms Jameson tries her best but struggles to salvage it.

So what else will fall off besides the clothes?

Talk about typecasting! LOL

It's funny that Natsume wants to change her image away from a porn star, yet she takes a job doing the voiceover for an American porn star in a movie called "Zombie Strippers," with lots of T&A.

Probably too busy watching vids.

Japanese parenting is just plain wack to me. my J SIL is always joking about my daughter growing up to be a famous gravure idol too... at least i thought she was joking.

disengage, your wife should be supportive and you should just ... well... disengage. Nana should be a good role model after all. Porn Stars are people too. everyone loves em.

And this is on first page of respected magazine like JT?!

The whole process of voiceover took 4 hours. Speaks a lot about the quality of this garbage.

Like men are really interested in seriously dating a woman who has taken plenty of **** in front of a video camera in order to make a living ?

best AV actress at the annual Takeshi Kitano Awards

Sums-up exactly how his reputation has gone down the toilet whilst making more money.

her face adorned a giant billboard on a Shibuya building as part of a campaign to raise public awareness of STDs

So we want young people to receive sex education from someone who got shafted in front of the camera in order to make money ?

“My mother was very supportive and told me to go for it; my dad didn’t say anything,”

Too many idiots pretending to call themselves parents and who drop babies without any notion of how to protect and care for their child.

First of all, don't put a space before a question mark. But point is, some people (myself included) do date porn stars. It's just a job, and they're strong people for getting through all the negativity they get from judgmental religious zealots.

First of all TokyoHustla (I guess you're an Economist or a Lawyer, right ?), people who know me certainly would not describe me as religious or a zealot. If you are happy dating a porno actress, then good for you buddy and it's none of my business. But your comment about them being strong people is kind of laughable. My idea of strong women would be the nurses who work all hours for rubbish pay carrying out backbreaking (but essential) work. Or maybe even a care worker who does a job that none of us want to do, again for a pittance. And if AV actresses don't like negativity, then maybe the sex video industry is not for them really ? Let's be straight up here, she has done this just to make a lot of money where other women in the community work much harder for a lot less money and without wanting the 'stardom'.

I'm with Northlondon. Nothing against porn stars, except...well, they're porn stars. She wants to be taken seriously? Pffffft! Get real!

what is "bushi" style?

"Zombie Strippers"

That would be an excellent name for a rock band.

Pfft. Just because you set up a hidden camera under your trucker cap, doesnt make her a porn star.

Oh Nana, you are making people from Sakai so proud. I await with baited breath your next sensational career venture.

Porn stars should be the best promotors of STD awareness. How you work in that business and avoid getting dreadfully ill (mentally and physically, I would guess) is amazing.

But somehow "Zombie Strippers" is too much of an oyxmoron for me. Could you imagine having rotting parts falling off on stage? "Whoops, that bikini top was a little loose, wasn't it? Now let me eat your brains!"

Breasts fires bullets, what's the title of this AV movie?

There was something with Japanese pornstars promoting condom use in the general population a while back. About the diseases associated with the business, actors are medically tested.

"How you work in that business and avoid getting dreadfully ill (mentally and physically, I would guess) is amazing." err wake up and smell the roses they don't avoid it..its one of the reasons the pay is high..

Sorry my man, but someone who gets shafted in front of a camera to make money is not my idea of a teacher of sex education. There is also a moral question mark over that one.

In the most popular films and videos the actors don't wear condoms. These films are managed by gangsters, not medical professionals and the girls are recruited for their looks, not their blood samples.

This article is just too full of gems to take apart. Her goals, her Dad not saying anything about her career (just grunting through the locked door of his study??), her back catalogue, her current projects...... I gotta see the movie in Japanese.

Northlondon-Who better to teach about sex ed than one who does it for a living? From that logic, one shouldn't study medicine with a doctor as a teacher because they do it for a living. Think about it, would you ask a vegetarian how to cook meat? Or closer to the subject, a priest the hows and whys of sex and condom use? Many people on this site myself included have obtained at least some knowledge from AV movies, so why the disrespect?

And more of the movie titles at:

Seems she has experience also with Zombie and Horror Movies.

You do realize that the entire porn industry isn't run by gangsters, right? Nana Natsume's studio was the company promoting STD awareness in Japan (that means that since she is argueably the most famous porn actor in Japan, her movies are some of the most popular that you refered to) so I find it hard to believe a company would fund such a campaign and not test its actors or request a physical from a physician. A properly screen actor using other forms of birth control is as safe as two people in a committed relationship. American porn actors often do not wear condoms but there has not been any real wide-spread STD outbreak among them since AIDs first hit so it's obvious their preventive measures are working. Anyways, not all porn stars are attractive but of course they choose the best of the best when it comes to casting, that doesn't mean they accept people with STDs. Look at how regulated the American porn industry is and yet, they have plenty of attractive people. With the relatively small percentage of the Japanese population suffering from STDs, it's easier to find clean actors.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ultrasham, one "so-called" clean porn studio does not an industry make.

And you're wrong about the American porn industry and AIDS. John Holmes reportedly did hundreds of wome on the set and eventually died of AIDS. More recently there was an outbreak in 2004 traced back to actor Darrin James.

There are myriad STDs that cannot be prevented merely by wearing a condom during intercourse. AIDS and pregnancy are just about the only diseases against which condoms are relatively effective.

The overall point is, being a porn-star does not necessitate respect, in fact it demonstrably represents a variety of not only poor decision-making skills, but also questionable values, and life priorities. To put it plainly, the woman had sex with dozens, if not hundreds of men she did not even know, merely for the vain pursuit of fame. And she wants respect for this?

It would be a sad story if it weren't so laughably pathetic.

I think they all deserve respect because they are fellow human beings. No industry necessitates respect as respect is not given, it is earned. What you deem as poor decision making skills have actually allowed numerous actors to succeed financially and support themselves.

Values are subjective. Life priorities differ from person to person, your's are not anymore important than someone who found a way to have their cake and eat it too -- doing what they enjoy and getting paid to do it.

Sure, actors enjoy fame but that is not likely the major cause for them to start working in adult videos. Actors often discuss how much they enjoy the act of sex. There are other ways to get famous, not to mention much easier. Look how easy it is to become an internet meme with a humerous youtube video.

What is truely laughably pathetic is someone thinking they are so much better than an adult actor even though they likely enjoy some sort of adult entertainment. Get off your pedastal and learn that you're part of the human family that all humans are part of.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ultrashaman, give it a rest. You've already lost the health argument, so I'll address your moral equivocation.

Human values are more universal than they are subjective. There is no culture that morally encourages the public display of sexual acts including multiple unaquainted partners, purely for the purpose of titillation. If they do exist, they are highly unusual and anyway, Japan is not one of them. It's always a taboo, and everyone who gets into the porn industry knows they are going against the greater social mores of their culture. I am being none the more pious for giving this girl a rough time than the vast majority of the population in the "human family."

There's a reason why it's easier to get famous by going on You Tube than through the porn pipeline, and it is pure social acceptability. Even public urination and defecation enjoy more universal acceptability than porn, worldwide. Deliberately sleeping your way to fame, and then showing surprise at any disapproval expressed your way for this behavior, shows a definite lack of both logic and understanding of greater society.

If you accept the realities of people being free to choose their own path in life, then you accept real world consequences for their actions. People judge people. That is the reality. This is the real world. Sure it is cruel, at times, but nobody said it wouldn't be. This girl's mother did her a disservice, and she herself was stupid if she thought people would so easily forgive and forget her background.

sydenham- 2 contained outbreaks does not a cesspool make. Porn stars have to go through rigorous testing in America to make sure they are disease-free. Very rarely does one slip through. You only know of 2 cases. Planes crash more often. There are more cases where doctors performing blood transfusions mess up with tainted blood or wrong blood types, in first world countries no less. "Forgive?" How pretentious. what did she do to YOU that you refuse to grant your illustrious forgiveness?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ultrashaman, give it a rest. You've already lost the health argument, so I'll address your moral equivocation.

You moved your arguement to morals by mentioning life priorities and values, I simply addressed it. I did not discuss the health issue further as my post was already a wall of text. Arguing more would be pointless because it's doubtful you would change your position no matter how convincing an arguement so agreeing to disagree is the only real resolution I can see.

ultrashaman, roger, agreed.
