Awwwwwww! Come on! We were't THAT brutal! It's not fair!! Okay, okay... so you have actual photographs and some old Japanese Imperial soldiers have come forward and apologized on their own for what they did in the slaughter, but that really doesn't mean we were that bad, does it? Can't you show the Japanese troops teaching a kid kanji instead of them bayonetting a child?

Anyway, in all seriousness, I look forward to seeing this movie and just weighing it out in my head. Been to Nanjing and the museum there, and have seen people (including a former Japanese soldier) speak on the horros and atrocities, and it's very sad. I have doubts it'll clear the Japanese film board, though, so I'll have to get a copy elsewhere.

Since the film industry as whole in mainland China own by the government, whatever Chinese movies qualifies as propaganda. By the way: do you cry so hard, if the Japanese make a movie about Hiroshima? Do you protest every August when Hotaru no Haka aired on NHK? Oh, no? "We were aggressors, therefore we suffered more?"

Of course, in the same way, the Chinese government/Chinese people often pretend nothing happened in the last 60 years in their own country, because they can't seperate themselves from their own government. I see no difference really.

Of course they're appeasing Japan. They've been appeasing Japan since Deng Xiaoping, and they'll continue to do so for the time being. This movie will make Chinese shed a couple tears and feel angry for a week, and then they'll go on with life as if nothing happened. Chinese nationalism always ocurs in short, strong burts, and then dissapates into nothing.

For all the reactive posters, i do not question the nanking massacre but the objectiveness of the movie, if an objective filmmaker would make a movie about it i would not mind. it will probably be Like all those old WW2 movies that showed every german as evil monsters.

although i would like to see a version by miike takahashi (audition, ichi the killer) that would probably make Hellrazor look like the teletubbies

Forget this movie, Germany has produced 'John Rabe' which has won a film prize. UNFORTUNATELY, THE MOVIE HAS BEEN BANNED IN JAPAN. And I thought China was the major Communist country in East Asia. The brutal scene inside the movie will impressing young Chinese people and of course that does matter and that will shaping how they see the world and japan! It was a complete ignorant to see the impact of future world! This kind of movie cannot be Chinese-japanese cooperation because that will white washing the accuracy of japanese brutality! By the way not just Japan has to be blame, the US and UK which has done nothing to help Nanking should also be blamed and seeded in young generation peoples mind!

The movie is a message to younger generations that we have a long march ahead when dealing with outside world, a struggle that was necessary to become a new superpower and Chinese should never compromise anymore like those generation in early twentieth century and pickup the arms to fight! This movie will be a milestone of Chinese ideologies! Yes dont let the wounds healed,only the frustrations will made China driving faster and stronger from the darkest chapter of modern Chinese history!

I agree with you, all countries commit atrocities in war, they happen. It is the way of war.....History is sometimes changed by those that win. Things are removed and things are added...

In the case of Nanking (or Nanjing if you like), that is a story filled with truths, half-truths, propaganda, lies and mistakes by all parties involved.

For China and it's propaganda machine to come out with this latest propaganda movie is just that, propaganda.

China has been changing itself and remaking it's history for the last 40 years. China has slowly become nationalistic and I believe that one day war will break out. China will try and do what it has never done, and it will fail.

Movies like this fill the minds of the young and uneducated with feelings of revenge. But this usually happens when a nation comes out of a cocoon. The sad thing is China will lose this war and go back into it's self imposed cocoon.

State promoted nationalism......Reminds me of the Nazis just before they moved against Czechoslovakia. I suspect that China will make it's move and nationalism will be the motivator. I just wonder what nation they will attack.......

That is why I say Japan needs to take all their business and move it to Vietnam.

Acknowledgement and reconciliation need to take place, but at some point, you have to move on. I get the impression that some of the most vocal and vitriolic protesters are so far removed from this incident, historically and even through blood (none of their relatives were killed in Nanking) that the protestations seem pretty hollow.

How long can you wallow in history? Why not work towards reshaping a better future and improving relations? Unbelievably, alot of this seems as much about "saving face" as it is about the needless loss of life -- a despicable concept in and of itself, aspects of which I can't stand, but that's for another discussion.

Well, see, I live in China, and truth be told, while his type exists, I often don't run into it. Remember those 'riots' against the west in China during the torch rely for the Olympics? Believe it or not, they were relatively small, and people still poured into the foreign supermarkets and stores on a daily basis. Chinese love their country, but not so many are so vocal or take such confrontational stances in their words such as the poster noted.

Actually the truth is, many Chinese are all words, but when it comes down to act, they usually don't. So you might have some Chinese poster heralding the doom of the west if they don't 'beware the Dragon', and the same said poster is likely quite the timid person in actuality. Behold the power of Internet Anonymity.

But lets really be honest with ourselves here. Ever read the comments of posters at say foxnews.com or any other 'patriotic' American website. You'd be surprised how similar these kinds of comments are. The difference is, the U.S. is the one invading countries at the moment, China isn't.
