Quarter Pounder back for seconds

McDonald’s Japan has announced it will be adding to the menu a limited edition Quarter Pounder in two versions to commemorate the first anniversary of its introduction to Japan. The first to be sold from Nov 6 through late November is the Quarter Pounder Bacon & BBQ, an American-style burger with bacon and barbecue sauce.

From the end of November through mid-December, the Quarter Pounder Lettuce & Tomato will go on sale, a delicious combination of beef and vegetables.

To promote the limited edition burgers, the Bacon & BBQ version will be available at 51 McDonald’s outlets from Friday.

Wow, how creative. Surprised they didn't slap an egg on it.

I am still captivated (and concerned) with the win7 burger. -but I am sure the 1/4 LE will be the better seller.

Great, now I'm hungry.

First anniversary commemoration of a burger... only in Nihon. I wonder how long the lines outside McDo will be?

Trying to get another 1 up on Burger King again, this is exactly what happened last time.

In honesty I have to wonder if all people have mouths THAT LARGE that they can take a proper bite on such a sized burger.

to "InTheKnow" : that will depend how many people they are willing to pay this year !!!

Only American companies make great burgers. I am sure these burgers will be a sure fire hit. Much better tasting and filling than a boring bowl of over priced noodles.

too bad you guys don't have the new third-pounder

Bacon & BBQ, an American-style burger

And here I thought a plain burger was American style.

Ah well...down the same way "Curry" went in Japan, I guess...

Still nothing on Burger King. I was in Shibuya BK the other evening and no kidding 1 in 2 people were buying the Windows 7 Whopper at ¥1450 each no less. BK must be raking in a fortune on this and the really funny thing? The BK Win 7 Whopper only sells the first 30 a day at ¥777. Then they go to ¥1450 - which is the price of a Whopper and 6 extra meat pattys. i.e. typical Japan - it is no saving at all, just a marketing way of bundling it up into something 'now!'

The BK marketing people need pay rises, all of them. An article about a new Mc burger and we are all talking about Burger King. They've done well.

That 7-patty burger was too much...

Actually sounds quite tasty.

I wonder how long the lines outside McDo will be?

It depends on how many people they hire to stand in them.

"From the end of November through mid-December, the Quarter Pounder Lettuce & Tomato will go on sale,..."

Figures. The one McD's burger I night want to eat will be available for a whole 2 weeks.

"... a delicious conbination of beef and vegetables"

I'll be the judge of that!

McDonald's & Food in the same sentence. Oxymoron if ever.

"McDonald's & Food in the same sentence. Oxymoron if ever."

McD's success really grinds the gears of some people.

Um, a quarter pounder isn't that large.

Wendys.

Basically.

nemo - We're talking 'bout McD's and the Quarter Pounder here, get with the program, ha ha ha!

You know what the call a Quarter Pounder in France? Nothing. They got the metric system over there, they wouldn't know what the bleep a Quarter Pounder is, ha ha ha!

I tried McDonald's bbq sauce for the first time recently.

I'll pass on a second taste.

And you guys need to take it easy on ptolemy. So he's proud of his place of employment. What's wrong with that (I'm just funnin' ptolemy; tongue is firmly in cheek)?

Taka

If you haven't seen it, I recommend you watch 'Super Size Me'. It'll put you off McDonalds for a very long time, fancy quarter pounders or not. Personally, give me a Hotto Motto bento anytime.

Beef, it's what's for dinner.

No one has ever been able to repeat Spurlock's "findings" in his documentary, because it was a load of attention-seeking nonsense.

What are you shilling for MickieDee's? I like their food as an occasional indulgence, but I don't doubt what I saw in that flick was essentially the case. I mean who would eat Mac's for every meal?

I watched supersize me and it made me hungry for macdonalds. It didnt teach me anything that an educated 8 year old shouldnt know about nutrition. I wanted to eat macdonals and i wanted to slap the guy around the face with a 100% beef patty and flick chicken nuggets at him until he admitted he was an idiot that makes stupid films. I read this article and now I want to eat this burger, but I can have it until next Friday. That sucks.

Is that a fact or are you quoting Pulp Fiction? How about a Royale with cheese?

LOL@DickMorris' comment - spot on, mate! And I also believe this is "one-upsmanship" on the part of Japan McDonald's in competition with Burger King....and incidentally, the Burger King near Keisei Funabashi Station - right across form McDonald's - is usually packed arounf lunch and dinner times. It's 1/3rd the size of the McDonald's there in store size, but I'll bet they are giving Micky D's a literal run for their money....

Is there really much difference in these "burger" joints? Seems to me they sell ground up cows fried with cheap grease and stuffed between sponge bread. I eat one of those occasionally when I am in a hurry, but really.... discussing the merits of one vs another seems weird.

WilliB - huge differences between McD, BK and Wendys.

McD - king of all breakfasts - sausage egg McMuffin heaven. BK - Flame grilled burgers - double bacon cheese or the whopper - best of the chain fast food burgers. Add onion rings and you are good to go! Wendys - what you eat when you cannot get to a McD or BK. Square burgers that have the texture of shoe leather.

Blue_Tiger, they are only giving McD's a run for their money in Tokyo I think. Still waiting for a BK in Hiroshima. (There was one for a short time, before the whole chain folded the last time. Hopefully this time around they'll survive.) I'm all for these new quarter pounders, but I'm still waiting for Taco Bell to launch throughout Japan....

If you want to have fun with this 1/4 pounder stuff, go into a mcdies and ask one of the 20 managers or so, how much does it weigh in grams. Watch what happens. Hilarious.
