300 Mbps high power laptop Lan adaptor

7 Comments

This month Logitec is releasing a nifty antenna device, LAN-WH300NU2, to attach to your laptop to bring 300 Mbps of connectivity speed. Chuck it into any USB connection. Security ready for WPA-PSK(TKIP) or WEP (64/128bit) protocols, you connect to a new connection with the device, or with the click of a button, boost your existing connection. Expect to see a price of 3,040 yen.

"Chuck it into..."

Huh? I was hoping to see language that is understandable. Is this a technical term that I missed the boat on?

um...maybe JT should look up 802.11N. It can do up to 600Mb/s and has been out for years now...

I'm still looking for a free hot spot in which to use it. Can't seem to find one anywhere... :(

um...maybe some one here has no knowledge of what they are talking about . LAN-WH300NU2 is 802.11N.

fyi>>> all previous versions of 802.11 have a channel bandwidth of 20MHz. 802.11n has an optional mode (controversial and not usable in many circumstances) where the channel bandwidth is 40 MHz. While the channel bandwidth is doubled, the number of data sub-carriers is slightly more than doubled, going from 52 to 108. This yields a total channel throughput of 150 Mbps. So again combining four channels with MIMO, we get 600 Mbps. so in others words Data rates up to 600 Mbit/s are achieved only with the maximum of four spatial streams using one 40 MHz-wide channel

@dctokyo2002

I think you are misunderstanding my post. What I am saying is that this technology (the ability to get 300+Mb/s wireless transfer rates) has been around for a while now. JT makes is sound as if this is something brand new. Also, I don't think that 3,040JPY is a "great" price. There are 802.11n USB adapters that can do the same transfer rate for less than 3,000JPY. ALSO, most laptops sold today come with .11n adapters as standard equipment, so I fail to see the hype here. If this was 2009... maybe, but in 2013 this is pretty standard stuff.

@Virtuoso

You also hit another point that this story fails to mention and that is unless you have a wireless AP that can do .11n transfer rates, you won't see 300mb/s. As a matter of fact, this story sort of implies you can get this speed anywhere anytime, which is not true. A lot of public AP still only do .11abg so you may only see 11mb/s or at best 52mb/s. 300mb/s capable AP's are still pretty scarce.

300mbps??? Just as Mirai Hayashi said, we dont get even 50mbps in everyday life so just forget about 300mbps!! Most of the countries overseas provide hardly 1~2 mbps, so I dont think I need this product for a while. Wimax is far better for outdoor use!
