Uniqlo to launch AIRism face mask

Global apparel retailer Uniqlo will launch the AIRism mask at all stores in Japan including its Japan online store on Friday. The company said it developed the face mask in response to feedback from numerous customers seeking a reusable, comfortable item that provides daily protection in these challenging times.

The AIRism mask employs a triple-layer structure. A high-performance filter sits between the outer mesh fabric and the AIRism layer. The filter delivers a bacterial filtration efficiency of 99%, blocking droplets, bacteria, virus-contaminated particles, and pollen. The outer mesh fabric has a UPF 40 rating, which means that it cuts 90% of ultraviolet rays.

Functionality was paramount in the development of the AIRism mask. Uniqlo noted that customers increasingly prefer reusable masks as daily wear, to minimize their environmental impact. The AIRism mask is machine washable, with regular household detergent. A testing institution proved that the filter inside the triple layer structure retains its efficacy after 20 washes at 40 degrees.

The AIRism mask is silky smooth on the skin. The inner AIRism layer prevents the stiffness or thickness felt when wearing a non-woven or cotton mask, and it continues to feel comfortable on your skin even after a long time of use.

Uniqlo recommends washing AIRism masks in a mesh bag, avoid using bleach on the mask and do not tumble dry.

The initial offering will be a three-piece pack available for 990 yen (plus consumption tax), in white and in three sizes: small (for children), medium (for small adult faces), and large (for regular adult dimensions). Purchases will initially be limited to one pack per size to maximize availability for as many customers as possible, with plans to manufacture 500,000 packs weekly. Children should wear masks under adult supervision.

Uniqlo said the mask reflects its commitment to make everyone’s life better through LifeWear, leveraging its unique technology to balance performance and comfort in items that are washable and can be worn throughout the year. Uniqlo is planning a phased launch of this product in markets outside of Japan.

Children should wear masks under adult supervision.

What's up with all these adults wearing masks and their kids mask-free? What, are they immune?

Abe should have partnered with Uniqlo for the nationwide

...mask handout instead of those ridiculous cloth patches.

Turning in to a country of faceless people. Bet they will be wearing masks permanently now. People wearing the masks in the car, outside in the open air. It's ridiculous. Continually breathing back the carbon dioxide exhaled breath reduces the oxygen in the body which is bad for the immune system.

This is another one of those stupid things floating around on the internet that is not true nor based in fact, that some people lack the requisite intelligence necessary to realize it needs a fact check.

White only, huh? Normally Uniqlo makes their AIRism products in lots of different colors... guess they wanted to maximize volume by sticking to only one this time.

That is the point of the whole social 'distancing, wear a mask' thing, debilitate your body, erase your persona, eliminate human interaction, it has nothing to do with the CCP virus. This thing is permanent, you better get used to it. People who don't wear masks will be ostracized and shunned from society, already started at workplaces, theme parks and schools, soon no wearing a mask will be akin to not wearing pants. Well, at least in Japan you won't get physically assaulted if you don't wear one like in the west.

Well, now that the virus is rampant in America, and America is the biggest spreader of the virus in the world, it's safe to say we can start calling it the America virus.

America has always been a virus to the world.

Face masks are for people who are sick with a flu and coughing. Research shows that wearing a mask does not stop the entry of viruses etc, if any are around. The most important thing much more than mask wearing is to wash hands and not to touch your nose and eyes.

Comment from " El Rata " is 100 percent right.

Look at it this way. All that extra CO₂ you breathe in will offset the greenhouse gas emissions this year. You'll be helping out our flat earth.

Another product which is made in China. I think I would rather trust another brand.

Sooo, what % of micro-particles will it block?

Is that a good or bad thing? I was under the impression that UV helped kill bugs and viruses. If so, would it not be better if the outer layer let in ultraviolet rays and any blocking would be done at the innermost layer?

Years of research had shown that wearing mask for a long period of time is dangerous for health as it obscures breathing. Short period of time was effective in stopping certain particles ( if someone coughed or sneezed around you ). All of a sudden those research results are out the window and new ones suggests everyone to wear masks! Few years later the old research data will be back again telling people to avoid wearing masks! I myself wear a mask outdoors mainly in crowded areas and use it for a short period of time. I hate using it though and feel like a criminal hiding myself behind a mask! But I have to be considerate of others around me so I wear it. Remember these masks are not hazmat suits which will completely protect you. If you keep touching your mask to adjust its setting on your face then it’s meaningless to wear it. In fact most people adjust their mask multiple time while wearing it. Also the quality of mask that you wear should be the priority because not all masks are effective against the corona virus. So I think most people wear mask to just go with the flow rather than for effective protection!

No it hasn't. This is another one of those stupid things floating around on the internet that is not true nor based in fact.
