A cool night's sleep

Here's just the thing for a hot muggy night. Resting your head on this absorbent pad on top of your pillow helps you sleep comfortably, as the heat of your body is absorbed. The effect lasts from 30 minutes to one hour, and does not over-cool the body.

There is no need to refrigerate the pad. Available at department stores and furniture specialty stores nationwide from 8,400 yen to 10,500 yen.

lol...30 min to an hr..well I guess they see this, as better than no sleep at all..=)

One question..."There is no need to refrigerate the pad."So this means ??? you buy one for 8,400 to 10,500 yen and use it only once...or how does this work..anyone???

Duh, no, it works for 30-60 minutes, long enough for you to drop off to sleep. Once you stop lying on it, presumably it cools itself down and is ready to go again.

OH DUH.. FACEPALM, I SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT!!!

It needs no refrigeration, and it is labeled as an "absorbent" pad. How exactly does it cool itself down again?

Sounds like an overpriced gimmick, some kind of thick towel of some goofy material.

No need for that type of stuff.

At my place we got NO aircon(actually got one but can't get it from Tochigi due to lack of licence/car). Don't like things with more than 2 wheels.

We got small fans/heaters and are happy also our place of abode is old-style so we regulates temps and ventilation via traditional means. Heck even our Pet-rabbits are happy sans aircon.

Just need the right bed-coverings, etc and you are set to go.

Also the body gets used to the local summer temps so no probs with sleeping.

Look on Rakuten, you can find the same thing in futon size for around ¥2,000. It's made of some sort of material developed by NASA that cools whatever is touching it.

Or, if you live on a quiet street like I do ( that was my #1 consideration when I chose my abode ),you can just keep the windows open and have the electric fan circulate the air, allowing for sweet dreams.

Sarge, I like your thinking, but it's just too hot where I live to do that. The other night, even at 9:30pm it was 30 degrees on the first floor, and even hotter upstairs.

I've seen these mats in the stores, but wonder if they really work.

ilcb76 - Jeez, if it's 30 degrees in your place at night, I guess you have no choice but to get an aircon.

I've got 2 in the living room/kitchen and one in the bedroom. The problem here isn't the temperature so much as the humidity. That night, the humidity was 80% in the house, so I had no choice but to turn on the air (dehumidifier function),

It's 2010 already... Air conditioners have been around since 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier. Japan the supposed High Tech Country hasn't developed an efficiently cooler yet domestically? We run ours 24/7. Can't Japanese?

I live In Puerto Rico..the Caribbean. Hot all yr long..many have AC.. but not everyone..I for one have one in my bedroom. But it is a bit expensive to run all the time, so we use it only when nights are too hot, which for me is everynight! So I wonder if something like this I could get here where I live to try and see if it really works..

I own one of those pads. They are made of some sort of gel that stays cool for 30-60 min if you lay on the same spot but if you move around, you could always find a cool spot. I dont like it cause it feels like you are sleeping on a cold marbeled floor (I have the full futon size). This article however has giving me the great idea of folding it up and using it as a pillow. Wonder if I can wrap the fish I catch in Tokyo Bay in it to keep them cool while transporting them home to eat?

Central air, people.

Don't we need an air conditioner if we use it?

Tried the pillow type once and found it not comfortable.

I use the aircon, learned one thing, If you turn the aircon on and leave it on, setting it on auto adjust so that when you are not home the temperature is warmer and is cooler when you are home you will save more then completely turning it off all day (letting the house get crazy hot) then making it work twice as hard to cool your place down each evening. Got he bills to prove this.
