Orient Watch Co’s newest waterproof watch makes it possible to be on time even when you're 200 meters under water. The new watch is 5 cm in diameter, is shock-resistant, has extra fluorescence to see better in the dark, and the crown is easy to adjust even under water. The watch is suitable for divers, but can be also used for everyday purposes, too. It comes in three colors – black, blue and orange. Cost: 56,700 yen.

Yes, along with the news of earthquakes and tsunamis, just what we really need, a watch that will keep on ticking even if your body is under debris etc..200 meters under water.

Shock resistant to what magnitude??! No good if the owner wearing it isn`t shock resistant!

Wonder if the makers have any idea of the decompression time from a dive to 200 metres? Is it automatic or battery operated? Does the extra fluorescence (tritium?) mean greater radiation? Do tell us more...

All Orient watches are automatics. The higher end orients are quite nice, IMO.

56,700 yen? That's 54,700 yen more than I'm willing to pay for a watch.

Orient watches, nice quality japan watches. I used to use one,but gave it a relative.
Now I am using a Casio watch, they are good too. Orient watches, casio watches, citizen watches, seiko watches and other japan watches, they make good gifts.
For gifts i usually gave plenty of Casio watches and Citizen QQ watches.
People appreciate, japan watches, they function long.

Not all Orient watches are automatic--half are quartz--but this one is. Automatic means that it has a self-winding mechanical movement that is activated by the wear's arm movements. Two hundred meters water resistance is the minimum for a diver's watch. For 56,000 yen this is a remarkably good deal for an automatic (mechanical self-winding) watch. I only wonder if the glass is industrial sapphire or mineral. Sapphire is highly scratch resistant, which is what you do need under water.
I also wonder how well this watch keeps time. Mechanical watches are not a good at keeping time as quartz (battery powered) watches, though some of the best (and most expensive) come close. We are speaking in seconds here, though a lot of mechanical watches have a tendency to either speed up or slow down, particularly when off the wrist for extended time when the power reserve is still in operation. When the power reserve is exhaust so are the watches, of course.

When the power reserve is exhaustED....
I just checked Orient's English website and the crystal is sapphire. That makes this watch even a better deal at 56,000 yen. Of course you could go for a Rollex Submariner at something like 700,000 yen.

In my mind adventurous brave men wear such watches. They are very skillful in surviving in the tsunami scenery and help other people survive. This is definitely a hero's watch...

"the crystal is sapphire. That makes this watch even a better deal at 56,000 yen"
OK, the crystal may be sapphire, but it probably doesn't have an alarm, which my 2,000 yen Casio watch has!
"In my mind adventurous brave men wear such watches"
In my mind people with too much money to burn wear such watches.
