McDonald’s might not have a reputation for culinary innovation in its home country of the U.S., but to succeed in Japan, you have to keep things fresh with a constant rollout of new temptations to attract easily bored Japanese fast food fans. For example, the orthodox milkshake lineup of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry just isn’t enough, which is why McDonald’s Japan has offered flavors such as Hokkaido melon, peach, and Calpis.
So later this month, the Golden Arches in Japan will offer their newest flavor for mature shake connoisseurs: café au lait.
To clarify, this isn’t a blended ice beverage, nor is it an iced coffee that’s particularly heavy on the cream. The Café au Lait McShake is a legitimate milkshake flavored with drip coffee extract-infused coffee syrup. Similar to how McDonald’s partnered with confectioner Morinaga for its milk caramel shakes a while back, the Café au Lait McShake is a collaborative effort with food and beverage company Glico, who, when not busy making jaw-dropping commercials and Pocky sticks, also sells a line of pre-packaged refrigerated café au lait in Japanese supermarkets and convenience stores.
As such, the Café au Lait McShake promises to be full of enough coffee flavor to please grown-up pallets, while ironically being sipped through McDonald’s Japan’s breast-feeding-simulating straws. The new shake is priced at 120 yen for a small and 200 for a medium, goes on sale March 28, and will be available until late April.

Needed a quick dinner back in the states last week. I got the quarter pounder (maybe 2 more onions than the usual 3 in Japan), wife tried the new buttermilk chicken tenders. Had to laugh. These Mc scientists have figured out how to liquify mechanically separated chicken parts, solidify it, slice it into small strings, then glue it back together to make it look like a whole chunk of breast meat. Milk is the only drink I usually get at McD's.

Hey, I try one. If real Coffee, milk, not too sweet, it work on ho’ day in the Kanto, Kansas, Toukai, Hokkaido, Hokuriku, Touhoku, Kyushu, Okinawa, Shikoku, Goutouretou, etc. I left a few out I’m sure. I just love Japan.

If you're that sensitive regarding food intake, you probably shouldn't be eating at a McDonald's in the first place.

As one may guess from the second of the three extra articles whose links are provided at the bottom of this one, these are mostly "McShakes"=shakes WITHOUT real MILK included!! Perhaps the Morinaga one called Milk Caramel McShake contains milk with the caramel, I do not know. THESE ARE IMPORTANT POINTS to publish when the OLYMPIC in TOKYO era begins to dawn!! McDonalds is cheap in the USA. That isn't what I've seen elsewhere. Seems they have tastier options ex-USA, but the clientele is different. The last thing I want to eat when overseas is McDs. There are so many other interesting options.
McDs is the last choice for a place to eat in the USA in my family and for most well-to-do people. It is only used when there isn't any other option.
