Anyone for vodka cola?

Kirin Brewery Co will release Kirin Cola Shock, a cocktail with a blend of cola and vodka. The product will come in 350ml and 500ml cans.

Kirin said its data research showed that among sodas, Coca-Cola beverages are the most popular, and that among adults, Coke is often consumed along with an alcoholic beverage at night. Kirin said these points showed that a drink with a cola base has a potential for growth within the RTD (Ready to Drink, or low-alcohol beverages drinkable on-the-spot) market. Kirin Cola Shock will offer a “highly stimulating” and “refreshing” addition unlike anything else available on the market, the company said.

With a blend of more than 15 natural essences with vodka and an increased level of carbonation, Kirin Cola Shock provides consumers with a “stimulating, but highly quaffable experience.” The advertisements will feature actress Meisa Kuroki.

On sale July 8.

I'm shocked!

Vodka and cola? That sounds awful. I can`t wait to try it for a laugh! I wonder if they ever considered rum or some other dark alcohol?

Not me.

Oh good heavens! The VC is a very basic, and very potable simple cocktail - about time they brought one of these out. Don't be such wusses!

Now, a Red-Eye... there's a disgusting concept...

something that could look enticing to youngters. hope there are no "accidents" in this vein.

I'm looking forward to a stimulating, but highly quaffable experience.

It's bogan time!

if there wasn't a better way to get elementary school kids hooked on booze this is it. They might as well painted the can purple and draw some cartoons.

Rum would have been a much better combination, but who knows, maybe it was not as cheap. Starches for vodka could be sourced domestically, but all mollases would need to be imported.

Clearly positioned in the 'alco-pops' sector to get young people drinking early.

A disgraceful piece of marketing.

what do you suggest statistician? ban all sweet cocktails? sell them in in blank non-descript packaging?

"It's bogan time!".

Are you Australian Altria?

Back on topic, I might try this, but I would prefer rum and coke.

Just looking at the can, I'm also wondering what the underage drinking crowd is going to think about this "new" drink.

I wish it were dark rum instead.

Looks interesting, can't say they didn't take some cues from Jolt Cola

What they need to do is put some Vodka and Cranberry juice together and sell that!

Is "a blend of more than 15 natural essences" what they're calling all those exotic chemicals in beverages now? I'm on board with TheguyNextdoor, but good luck finding anything with cranberry outside of an import shop.

Hmmm... alcohol and caffienated cola, just the thing we need in a night-time beverage. No wonder everyone is so sleep-deprived.

That said, I'm looking forward to trying this. Japanese marketing reports say it's been formulated to be extra-fizzy, which is nice because most carbonated cocktail concoctions just don't have that fizz.

Cola yuk, I'll take a straight vodka, cheers!

What Maria said. Vodka coke is long overdue. It took me forever to find a bartender who'd even make a friggin' vodka tonic. Vodka instead of gin was too much of a Scanners moment for the mizushobailings. I recently tried wine coke, apparently all the rage in Spain. As nasty as it sounds.

Legal age for drinking in Japan is 20 - hardly young.

Anyone for vodka cola?

vodka coke.... yuk!

Err, Shouldn't that read "cola beverages"?

vodka coke.... yuk!

agreed

junkface -- you need to get out more often, or simply expand your horizons. Vodka and Coke is a standard cocktail in many places, like in many bars in NY for example. Absolut & Coke is one of my standard drinks.

What an aberration. Stop this an make efforts to import quality rum. Ahhh I miss Brugal so much :/

Kirin said its data research showed that among sodas, Coca-Cola beverages are the most popular, and that among adults, Coke is often consumed along with an alcoholic beverage at night.

Further research showed that it gets dark at night and that water is wet.

Whatever. Vodka and coke is a bizzare mix and I question anyone who says it's a popular, common cocktail.

Vodka goes with about anything since it's only grain alcohol without any flavor. It's a second cousin to shochu.
