Cute little gadgets to keep you cool

Can you guess what these gadgets are? It’s hard to tell from their appearance, isn’t it? Well, they’re portable devices that are designed to keep you cool in warm weather, so they’re not just cute and smart looking, they’re actually quite functional. So what exactly are they and how are they used?

Okay, we won’t keep you in suspense. These are actually portable fans, but what makes them unique is that as you can see from the pictures, there are no blades, so you could call them “fanless” fans. If you thought that Dyson’s Air Multiplier fans, also without blades, are cool but a bit pricey, then this small portable fanless fan may be a fun, inexpensive alternative. These fans are available from Thanko Rare Mono Shop for a much more reasonable 980 yen.

The fanless fans come in cute blue and pink designs, and they weigh 203 grams, making them light enough to carry around. They’re both battery and USB operated, so they can easily be used at the office or outdoors. If you take off the back cover, there’s a sponge inside which you can add water to if the air is very dry, or you can also add a few drops of scented oil to relax and enjoy the aroma.

These fanless fans may come in handy in the coming summer months!

Air multiplier.... There is still a fan on the inside, however the airflow from the ring itself will draw air inside the ring with it :)

Should call Dyson and report how their patent has been ripped off by a Japanese company.

i think Dyson`s patent is probably expired as i have seen some other bigger "rip offs." glad to see that these wonderful devices are becoming more affordable.

... if the air is very dry ...

usually in Japan it is hot and humid in summer. No Need to add more humidity.

The remarkably low 2-week product guarantee offered by the seller does not inspire confidence.

Anybody know what are the noise levels of such kind of (fan-less) fans?

Virtuoso: It actually does. Making it a limited product is THE way to go here in Japan.

It is a fan. Similar to the large scale one from Dyson.

I looked this product up on Rakuten and a couple of customers remarked that it's noisy and has a low airflow. Both rated it 1 out of 5 stars and finally said that they regretted their purchase.

bugs - Thanks for the heads-up! I would have guessed as much. Nothing beats a handkerchief to wipe sweat, er, a regular electric fan to move the hot, humid air around, er AIR CONDITIONING! Unfortunately AC is a big no-no in Japan this year and probably the next decade, lol.

Having worked in the industry, I'd say it's a safe bet that they already know. Word gets around real quick.

Although I haven't seen the specification, drawings or claims of Dyson's patent, it seems to me that this product adds an innovative step (besides it being minimised in size thus becoming a portable device). The added fragrance pad (clever!) probably dodges Dyson's claims. No infringement, no problem!

Nothing new, I was in Hong Kong a couple of months ago and saw these there! You can easily find them at Apliu Street, Sham Shui Po.........probably a fraction of the price in Japan too!

Was it really necessary to write "cute" three times?

Japan has plenty of ripoffs, we tend to think China is the bad boy, but scrape the surface and we see Japan does it all the time
