Extra-wide microwave oven

Toshiba will release an extra-wide home microwave on Dec 10. The new microwave can accommodate large, square-shaped serving dishes without the need for the traditional rotating plate. It has a maximum capacity of 20 liters. A range of settings allow for diverse cooking options. Open pricing but probably around 27,000 yen.

How about a decent-priced under the counter convection oven?

Extra-wide for extra-uneven cooking.

Does this bake like a regular oven, as well, or microwave only?

It probably bakes, broils and roasts. They all do, but the instructions are in Japanese and that can be a chore to read. Instruction books here are like a Japanese wedding or a Japanese home page. Too many words.

Sounds like a good idea, although I don't think I'd trust my Lasagna alla Nessie to electromagnetic radiation.

Man, I need one of these.

I'm glad there's a picture of the microwave in question.

I wonder why Toshiba chose to dispense with the rotating base.

Not only Toshiba produces microwave ovens without turntables. This is possible due to vastly improved inverter technology which guarantees an even distribution of heat.

I recently bought a large Toshiba microwave oven/convection oven/steam oven all in one. In one word: fantastic.

Toshiba ovens are the best.

Personally, I have never liked microwave cooking. Convection cooking should work and do weird things to the food structure. IMHO.

A lot of these microwave ovens can be used as a regular convection oven as well. I had a cheap one when I first moved to Japan and I was able to make cookies, lasagna and whatever else I could fit into it. It was really great, although too small.

I love the Japanese microwave oven. Very versatile!

I don't see why this is news the Japanese makers ave been making much larger ones for the NA market for years now even bigger then this on and without the turntable and both micro wave and convection in them.

I had a Panasonic more then 20 years ago that was big enough to put a medium size turkey in it back home and I have always wondered why I cannot find one that size here!

I'm in terrible need of a regular oven.
