Frappuccino and macchiato celebrate Tokyo Reserve Roastery opening

Starbucks customers are treated to exciting new release announcements every few weeks in Japan, and now, hot on the heels of their limited-edition Sakuraful beverages, we’re getting news that another couple of new beverages will be arriving in stores before the end of this month.

The new releases are timed to coincide with the February 28 grand opening of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Tokyo’s Nakameguro, the fifth such venue following others in New York, Shanghai, Milan and Seattle. And this time, the focus will be firmly placed on coffee, with both drinks designed to showcase the extent to which they can take customers on a journey showcasing both fruit and bean.

The Crafted Coffee Jelly Frappuccino is said to contain ingredients which are designed to help customers get in touch with the “coffee story” inside the beverage. Not only does it use Starbucks’ Japan-only Espresso Roast beans as its base ingredient, it also incorporates it into the original coffee jelly created for the drink. The upper layer of the Frappuccino will contain a mound of whipped coffee cream, finished off with a Cascara sugar topping, made with the flesh and peel of coffee cherries. The espresso roast has rich caramel notes, which are said to add a deliciously sweet dessert-like flavor to the limited-edition beverage.

The Mousse Foam Caramel Macchiato expands upon Starbucks’ popular Caramel Macchiato, which has been a hit with customers for many years. This time, though, it will be topped with a bigger and better mound of airy, fine-textured mousse, while retaining the same familiar criss-cross caramel sauce pattern on top. Starbucks recommends scooping the mousse out with a spoon to fully enjoy the drink, and give you “a caramel macchiato like one you’ve never tasted before”.

Both drinks will be sold in tall sizes only at Starbucks locations around the country from Feb 28, with the Frappuccino retailing for 590 yen and the Macchiato retailing for 460 yen. The Frappuccino will be on the menu until March 19, while the Macchiato will become a standard menu item available year-round, which means you won’t have to rush out and try it like this month’s other limited-edition beverages.

No news about the price hike at starbucks. They increased 10 yen before tax for all drinks from 15 Feb.

Add some extra foam and raise the price! That's how it is with the cold brew coffee, I think it's almost 100 yen to add some extra hazelnut topping nonsense, highway robbery!
