From July 20, the Tokyo Seal Engravers Co-operative Association will start a service where they will attach a small round sticker on Japanese signature stamps called inkan to mark the front of the stamp. Many people may have experienced getting a crooked position when stamping official documents, but this sticker may solve this long-lasting problem. The association says they will add these markers to their newly manufactured inkan for free as well as offer the service for inkan of other brands for a fee.

Hardly a “long standing problem.” In fact, I just looked at all of my hanko and discovered they all have a flat surface on the curved edge where my finger goes in order to have the hanko properly placed. Much more elegant and suitable for the visually impaired than a red sticker. In my opinion.

Indeed. Smells more like someone inventing an add-on they can use to raise the price for a product in a dying, increasingly culturally-irrelevant industry.

A small round sticker????
Only a marquis-cut, flawless 5-carat blue diamond will recompense me for the years of inkan-induced torment I've endured....
