Are they really waterproof? Or just water resistant. I want to go swimming while listening to music!

Why would anyone want to listen to music while playing sports? How can you concentrate on your game or what your opponent is doing?

I guess they mean training, or running? gym?

Last time I checked "running" was a sport. Smartacus, did you read the part about how :

they can be washed after a workout

running is one thing, but swimming? Just plain ridiculous. If you are that desperate to avoid thoughts entering your head, it may be time for a psycologist.

hoserfella-- hahaha I agree.

I like that you can wash them though. Jogging with headphones can be gross.

Well when I go swimming its at a pool and its usually anywhere between 40 and 60 laps. That takes about a half an hour of swimming at my pace. I like to keep my speed and motivation up which I find music great for. Sadly when music is only playing on the speakers outside of the pool I can only hear it between the swishing of water. Therefore, yes, I would like waterproof headphones but not to keep the thought out but to keep my motivation up like running. I would never dare wear them outside of the pool though.

I can't think of any sport, aside from contact and team sports that are not made better with music.

venetian - so lets blast some Zeppelin on the back 9 at Augusta National on Sunday afternoon?

Damn, you beat me to it. Golf definitely is one, tennis a close second.

Wow. Some of us got off to a running start today with "snarky" at full-throttle.

They're just headphones, folks. And you don't have to buy them if you don't want to.

Horsefella,

"If you are that desperate to avoid thoughts entering your head, it may be time for a psycologist."

What music are you listening to? I do some of my best thinking with my favorite music playing in the background.

Venetian,

". . . can't think of any sport, aside from contact and team sports that are not made better with music."

No kidding! Off the top of my head, cycling, running, lifting, hiking, climbing, motor-cross, hang-gliding, skiing, snowboarding, and yes, even swimming, are all sports where a little music helps set the mood.

Kudos to those who find their "runner's high" sufficient motivation, but I like a bit of music to make my morning ride a bit more fun. If these headphones can help me do that without crapping out from too much moisture rusting out the circuitry, great! But can they reach the deeper base frequencies? What's a rhythm without a good beat?

I have tried not good ones, but of the same fitting being around my neck to also above my head. For gym work I liked the above head ones for so often the back of my head was resting on a low bench for many reasons, but liked the back of the neck when riding a bicycle as a helmet is a must for bicycle riding.

No I do not use any form of music when riding my m/cs for in my ears would be soft ear plugs to help turn down the wind sound with a full face crash-helmet being a Shoei in my case.

LFRAgain: Thank you :) Maybe some people really do get a runners high but all I get is winded after 20 minutes. Music helps push me through and although some people wouldn't want to listen to music in the pool...I think its a nifty idea!

wouldn't help much in the pool if the earphones were waterproof unless the player also was waterproof... does it exist yet, waterproof iPod etc?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yup! There is a waterproof case for them :)

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. Running, ok. working out, fine. But if I ever see someone wade into a pool with an Mp3 player strapped to their speedos, and headphones, I'll laugh my butt off at the nerd. Whats next, taking a portable PC along for a few laps? I think this crosses the line from convenience into addiction.

Horsefella,

"Whats next, taking a portable PC along for a few laps? I think this crosses the line from convenience into addiction."

Addicted to music? There could be worse things, like the morning espresso from Starbucks. Besides, some people said the same thing about cell phones not too many years back, a la, "Anyone who needs to be able to make a phone call that quickly has serious instant gratification issues."

MP3 players are small, light, and unobtrusive, and becoming even less conspicuous. There's even research underway to create headphones that transmit sound through bone tissue in the head via vibrations, and there are emerging products where the electronics of a cell phone are practically impervious to jostling, falling off, or water damage because they’re implanted under the skin. I can’t think of a single sport out there where that wouldn’t be useful.

C'mon, man. You know it's cool. Embrace the tech. Embrace the tech.

I love my music, but even I'd get sick of listening to it 8 hours a day or more.

so lets blast some Zeppelin on the back 9 at Augusta National on Sunday afternoon?

For the tennis court: "Whole Lotta Love."

I dont know who is listening to music for 8 hours a day. I work. I can't listen to music that long but when I am excercising it would be nice. Just like when I am running I like some tunes.

I ride about 400km a week on my road bike, and doing so without music would be a nightmare.

Weight training, I usually go pretty heavy, so need spotting so headphones arent possible, but snowboarding, skiing, MTB / BMX, etc.. All are made better with music.

In-ear Senheisser for me though. I am an audiophile and need to feel the SPL!!

You ride while wearing earphones? On the road? Here in Japan?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, I ride with headphones on whilst riding on the roads.

I am a semi-pro cyclist, and I know what I am doing.

The main issue people have here with car / truck drivers, is they don't demand enough space.

Get in the middle of the road, and you will be fine.

Venetian - Are semi-pro cyclists somehow able to fend off quarter ton vehicles better than mere mortals? Enjoy your Lady Gaga, but you are an accident waiting to happen.

LOL. Yeah keep doing it and one day these words will end up being your epitaph...
