One-upping the Under Armour brand of athletic wear, this new line of boxer briefs offers the protection of samurai body armor — or at least the appearance of it. Made of a lightweight, breathable, gauze-like material, the undergarments from Sido (from “bushido”) are appropriate for all manner of wintertime pursuits, from snowboarding to ransacking castles on horseback.

Sido’s existing underwear line was flying off the shelves of upmarket department store Isetan Men’s, and despite the higher price for the samurai shorts, we can see these becoming a popular present this holiday season. Why? Well, the designer is none other than Chisato Otomo, creator of hugely successful lines for hip vertical mall 109 in Shibuya. (Metropolis)

"samurai body armor"

Almost as silly as the armor the Europeans used to wear.

That copywriting is even more painful to read than Kyodo's stilted mistranslations.

Aside from the obvious feminine design, I don't see any place to access your gear for standing urination. Brought to you by: Loom of the fruit!

Imagine a guy with both the man bra and this...Oh my g**... I know Bushido could be interpreted as a way of being "gay" but this... Man, japanese can really invent creepy things...

PuffinMuffin : it's a fake mannequin, even on a girl this "thing" just looks horrible

It wouldn't mind buying a load of these, and everyone has to wear a pair and nothing else, at one of my famous pool parties.

I'm really considering it, they so soooooooo pretty, my partner would look great!!!

Ooooh, at last, some news to cheer me up!

This, along with the man bra, is deeply disturbing...

I went to their website. Some of the other designs don't look so feminine. I think they should have a chosen a different pair. Still too expensive.

Many components of the designs come from historical "yoroi" (samurai armor) fabric and cording designs, so really there's nothing in the least feminine about them, though I suppose when you translate them in nylon like this the effect is somewhat altered... :)
