Krispy Kreme Japan celebrates spring with premium Sakura-An Butter donuts

By grape Japan

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Japan Co Ltd will start selling their "Krispy Kreme Premium Sakura An Butter" donuts from Friday.

Sakura-an 桜あん is a variant of anko 餡子, a sweet paste made with red azuki beans, but instead using white beans and cherry blossom petals to maintain the natural pink color and impart the delicate sakura aroma.

The latest donut in Krispy Kreme Japan's premium lineup, the "Krispy Kreme Premium Sakura An Butter" is made with a light, fluffy dough and rich, mellow tasting Hokkaido butter sandwiched between two layers of sakura-an.

The salted cherry leaves of Japanese Oshima cherry trees kneaded into the bean paste enhance the sweetness, while adding a hint of saltiness, putting an authentic Japanese seasonal twist on Krispy Kreme's premium donuts.

The sakura petal design on the surface and the sprinkling of powdered sugar express the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms.

"Krispy Kreme Premium Sakura An Butter" donuts (『クリスピー・クリーム・プレミアム 桜あんバター』 in Japanese) cost 345 yen each, tax included, and are available exclusively at the JR Nagoya Takashimaya store for a limited time until the end of May.

Wasn't Krispy Kreme fan back in the US. (Dunkin Donuts was much better.) And, I generally like Mister Donut here. So, I've never sought out a Krispy Kreme here. But, this looks interesting, and definitely like something my wife would like. So, I guess it's time to Google Krispy Kreme locations near me. ¯_(シ)_/¯

I cannot think of a worse combination that a doughnut with a slab of butter inserted.

There is no real “delicate Sakura aroma”-it’s all artificial!
